How much should I say here on LinkedIn about this? I could easily start swearing in the next sentence. How utterly and completely out of touch do you have to be to make a decision like this? "Public service" my ass. Turning libraries into jail cells is not a public service, just another way to feed the school-to-prison pipeline. People with these antiquated ideas about "discipline" need to be put out to pasture. (I made it one extra sentence). https://lnkd.in/gWKR-Sja #houston #libraries #schooltoprisonpipeline #okboomer #education

🌟 Why is the Voting Age 18? 🌟 Did you know why the voting age is set at 18 in many countries? Here’s a quick look at the reasons: - Historical Context: Originally 21, the age was lowered to reflect new adulthood benchmarks. - Military Service: The slogan "Old Enough to Fight, Old Enough to Vote" gained traction during wars. - Civic Responsibilities: At 18, individuals can sign contracts, serve on juries, and are fully accountable under the law. - Education and Engagement: By 18, many have finished secondary education and are seen as capable of making informed decisions. Let’s appreciate the power and responsibility that comes with the right to vote. #VotingAge #CivicEngagement #Democracy #YouthInvolvement #Curiosity

SCI vigorously joins the conservative coalition in opposition to expanding #SelectiveService registration to include women. This would be a historic and strategic policy change ignoring the biological differences between females and males that will affect America's national defense. Women who voluntarily join the #ArmedForces are admirable and patriotic and we salute with the highest regard; however, forcing all women to register does not award the equality stamp. #EqualRights does not imply equal physicality. Drafting our daughters doesn't prove their worth or status as a citizen. #Military leaders should make strategic decisions and policy based on what is the best defensive and offensive maneuvers in the combat theater not gender blinded ones. #NDAA #SenateArmedServices #Daughters #Granddaughters #Nieces #Women Maggie McKneely Concerned Women for America Independent Women's Forum Women's Congressional Policy Institute Andrea Bottner Hadley Heath ManningAmber SchwartzCarrie Sheffield Barbara Ledeen Amber Niblock Heather Reams Heather Sellers Advancing American Freedom Ann Stone Lois Stirewalt Murchison Candice BoyerOlivia Grady, Esq. Recently, I was asked to present at The American Legion’s National Membership Workshop. After moments like this, I tend to spend (probably too much) time reflecting on the experience - lessons learned, areas of opportunity, etc. I was called in to discuss legislative affairs and, more importantly, how we can use our legislative agenda to attract members. I started the course by asking everyone that owned a gun to stand. After that, I had everyone stand if they had heard of the NRA. I asked someone to explain, in one sentence, why individuals join the NRA. I repeated the process with PETA and the ACLU. Every answer was the exact same - individuals join advocacy organizations for representation. When you go to the NRA’s social media platforms, every single post is about guns. PETA’s platforms are covered with posts about animals. The ACLU’s platforms are covered with posts about civil liberties. Yet, for some peculiar reason, when you scroll The American Legion’s social media, there is a remarkable lack of comms about our advocacy (try it, look us up). The American Legion does an exceptional job pushing its Children and Youth and Americanism programs - exceptional. But, when you visit posts across America, the conversations are strikingly different from those on our feeds - What gets veterans yelling across a room is learning their benefits are on the chopping block. What gets them crying is watching Kabul fall. What gets them angry is knowing their terp, who kept them alive in country, has been abandoned. What gets them loud is realizing we’re not in a named war, yet we’re at the highest op tempo in American history. The American Legion exists to fight against these injustices and until we decide to talk about them, loudly, we won’t attract new members. If we lose sight of the fact we exist to represent an underserved population, all of the ancillary programs in the world won’t solve declining membership. Talk about the things that matter. 📸: intothebreachsupply #aaa #afghanistan #foreignrelations #veteransstrengtheningamerica

Hayley Ann Boswell ⭐️This hit me. Our eldest is onto her 7th school and all four of our children have faced challenges with their education due to being Defence Kidz. Thankfully, they have also thrived. As Defence families, we do not get to pick where we live. The amount of times some snarky person on the phone has said to me, "Why didn't you have them on the wait list from birth?" We, as Defence families, don't get that luxury. How about priority of placement for Defence Kidz in ALL childcare centres. Who needs respite more than a Defence spouse doing it solo? How about State School of CHOICE? We don't get to pick where we live, so how about allowing us to pick the State school that best suits our child regardless of catchment area? Small actionable outcomes that would give Defence families a little bit of power to determine the best educational outcomes for their children. These options are already available to at risk children, so the framework is there. How about our Defence Kidz?

Did you know that military children move an average of 6 to 9 times during their Reception-year 12 education? The resilience they exhibit is nothing short of extraordinary. But it's not just about the numbers; it's about the faces behind them. These little faces are the reason we advocate so fiercely and passionately. We recently created this video that perfectly encapsulates the hard times and the celebrations of our defence families, with the photos supplied by our defence community. It's a poignant reminder of why we do what we do. We're not just advocating for policies or benefits; we're advocating for real people, real families, and real lives. As someone deeply involved in this advocacy, I've seen firsthand the difference it can make. From improved educational opportunities to connecting events for veteran families, the changes we fight for have a tangible impact on these families' lives. It's not just about making their lives easier; it's about honouring their sacrifices and ensuring they have the support they deserve. But there's still so much work to be done. As we look to the future, we must continue to push for meaningful change. We must listen to these families, understand their unique challenges, and work tirelessly to address them. So, I ask you, what changes do you think are most needed to support our veteran families? What can we do to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met? Share your thoughts in the comments below. If you found this post insightful or helpful, please give it a like and consider reposting it to spread the word. Together, we can make a difference. #MilitaryFamilies #Advocacy #SupportOurveteranfamilies Kelly Hopkins Prof. Neil Curtis Rochelle Feenan Liam V. Rebecca Zanol Miranda Van Hooff

The Pathway to Violence is a set of indicators meant to show if someone is escalating in their violent thoughts or tendencies. This is is School Safety Week in the US. If academic faculty and staff understood these stages and received proper training, it is likely more school violence could be prevented. Attached to the report is The Counterterrorism Group (CTG)'s version of The Pathway to Violence. #SeeSayDay #SchoolSafetyWeek #academia #libraries #prevention #pathwaytoviolence #US #OSINT https://lnkd.in/dj2VsJnD

To weed out white supremacy from organizations I was affiliated with, I recommended very specifically to follow Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org) on our group social media, and simply share the work being done by this fine organization to heal Americans, to finally bring us all together, and expanding the horizon of our future. My cries fell of the deaf ears of my brothers and sisters. Not too long after, an Air Force Veteran shot and killed trying to take our country’s capital. We now KNOW white supremacy festers in U.S. military ranks and veteran community, because it is in us all. We are all racist, yes, that includes me. From that point, we can all moving forward in the process of reconciliation. Yet, as American suffers from polycrisis, notice, that America’s “heroes”, participate in virtually every form of game and circus offered. Americans invested more money in the Pentagon for “national defense”, and the people they placed their bets on are at Topgolf when Americans need an Army to restore the top soil in the battle for humanity against climate change. We, U.S. military veterans, have no shame in our game. We now watch our country come to the same boiling point that got one of our sisters shot at the capitol, for the frustration of “white” Americans, is the same as #BlackLivesMatters, same as #LatinoX, and that is, our government is not protecting and investing in our communities. We Americans cannot have the adult conversations required to push through collectively, because we don’t address the racial Elephant we all put in every room across the world. #Veteran #Veterans
