This floppy disk changed my life. - I started in IT at 12 years old. - All because I wanted to play a video game on the computer. - Got my first computer job at 13 years old (thanks Ivan!) - Landed my first corporate IT job at 21. - When I was 27, I get my first taste in sales as a pre-sales engineer (thanks Lior!) - At 31, I became a hybrid sales engineer and account executive. - By 33 I was carrying my own bag as a full own tech sales account executive. - Two years later, I was tired in paying so much in taxes on each commission check. - By 36 I found real estate and began learning about how apartment investing works. - When I was 37 I made my first passive investment in a 42 unit apartment in Houston, TX. - By 38 I had syndicated (bought with others) our first active apartment, a 28-unit in Houston, TX. - Later that year, bought a 12-unit in Atlanta, GA. - By 39 I had purchased a 96-unit in Augusta and a 56-unit in Atlanta, GA. - At this time I met a very influential mentor in my life who helped my real estate partner and I reshape our real estate brand (thanks Howard!) - After reaching 40, I added a 278-unit complex to the portfolio in Cleveland, OH. - Age 41 brought me a 92-unit in Atlanta, GA as well. - Somewhere between 41 and 42, I crested $200MM in enterprise sales as an AE. Having just turned 42 last week, I think back to how incredibly blessed I am and how grateful I am for this journey. "Salesman" was a dirty word in the Midwest community where I was born. Literally, the word was said in hushed tones. It conjured images of a greedy man behind a desk who would ruthlessly manipulate you to get your every last dollar. Greed is real in sales, but it's also real in every other job. Being in sales a decade, there's only one requirement a salesperson needs in order to be successful. That is, they connect value to others. That's it. Find a message and connect it to people who can benefit from it. The rest, good or bad, is an individual choice.
