Earlier this month I had a great few days in London for Financial Times' #WomenInBusiness Summit 2024. I got the chance to join Isabel Berwick, as well as fellow panelists Nicola Downing, Yeşim Özlale Önen, and Brian Elliott for a lively discussion of flexible work. Our #WorkTrendIndex research finds that people want both flexibility and connection. So how do we create a system that works better for more people? We believe we’ve entered a new phase: structured flexible work. This means offering flexibility whenever possible, and coming together when in-person connection is key. We call these “moments that matter.” They are: 📝 Onboarding to a new team or company 📝 Kicking off a big project 📝 Building team cohesion Read more from our time with Isabel Berwick and the Financial Times here: https://lnkd.in/gR8nW3Rx

Embracing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Path to Thriving Businesses Within the modern business landscape, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) have emerged as pivotal elements for organizational success. Companies that prioritize DEI foster a more inclusive workplace culture and gain a competitive edge in innovation, employee satisfaction, and market reach. Diversity goes beyond mere representation. It encompasses the unique perspectives and experiences that individuals from different backgrounds bring to the table. By embracing a diverse workforce, businesses can tap into a broader range of ideas and solutions, driving creativity and better decision-making. This diversity of thought is crucial in today's rapidly evolving market, where adaptability and innovation are key. Equity ensures that all employees have access to the same opportunities and resources, regardless of their background. This involves identifying and eliminating barriers that may prevent certain groups from advancing. Companies committed to equity actively work towards creating a level playing field, where merit and potential are the primary criteria for success. Inclusion, on the other hand, is about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. An inclusive workplace encourages open dialogue, where employees feel comfortable sharing their ideas and perspectives without fear of discrimination or bias. This sense of belonging boosts morale and enhances collaboration, leading to higher productivity and job satisfaction. The benefits of DEI are well-documented. Diverse and inclusive companies are better at attracting and retaining top talent, as employees are increasingly seeking workplaces that reflect their values. Moreover, diverse teams are proven to be more innovative, leading to improved business outcomes. Customers, too, are more likely to support brands that demonstrate a commitment to DEI. In conclusion, DEI is not just a moral imperative but a business one. Companies that genuinely embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion are better positioned to thrive in an increasingly diverse world. By fostering a culture of DEI, businesses can unlock the full potential of their workforce, driving growth and success. #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI #InclusiveWorkplace #BusinessInnovation EOS Worldwide Vistage Worldwide, Inc. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Want to know more? Continuing the discussion about #WorkforceChallenges, we reference the report, "Deloitte 2023 Global Human Capital Trends: New fundamentals for a boundaryless world". The report states: "10,000 respondents in this year’s Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends survey said their greatest barrier to achieving organizational outcomes is being overwhelmed 😰 by too many changes at once...organizations and workers should challenge prior assumptions and adopt a new set of fundamentals built for a dynamic, boundaryless world rather than the stable, compartmentalized one we are leaving behind." "These new fundamentals require organizations and workers to frame the challenge differently: 🤔 🔍 THINKING LIKE A RESEARCHER in how they approach their business and workforce strategies... 🤝 COCREATING THEIR RELATIONSHIP {with workers} in pursuit of new and evolving purpose, innovation, and reimagination... 🧑🤝🧑 PRIORITIZING HUMAN OUTCOMES and approaching strategies from a human lens—for humans and by humans." Let's explore: How to Think Like a Researcher 📚 Researchers dig deep, ask questions, and explore possibilities. They're not afraid to challenge the status quo! 💡 Here are three simple steps to think like a researcher: 1️⃣ Curiosity: Ask questions, lots of them! 🙋♂️🙋♀️ Engage your workers in meaningful dialogue to uncover the issues and challenges. 2️⃣ Evidence-based: Make decisions based on data and facts, not assumptions. 📊📈 After collecting your workers' insights, pull data to help support their claims before making changes. If data doesn't exist, find a way to collect it. 3️⃣ Open-mindedness: Embrace diverse perspectives and be willing to adapt. 🌍💬 Everyone is unique. Go for the 80/20 rule up front and build in ways to address unique circumstances when they occur. Thinking like a researcher can revolutionize the way you approach workforce challenges and opportunities. Give it a try! 💪🔬 (Follow DHH Company for more insights on addressing project management, operations improvement, and staffing challenges.) #CriticalThinking #ProblemSolving #ResearchMindset #Curiosity #DataBased #OpenMinded #Diversity

Do you have the courage to challenge? Another excellent extract from our DE&I panel event earlier this year.. this time from Tiffany Fraser 👏🏾 “We understand budgets are tight.. but if you look at our current state, where we are today in 2024, where humanity is going, how we are living and the cost of living. #DEI is super important. It is one of THE most important areas.” It is so disheartening to see companies be short-sighted and cut DE&I initiatives, making redundant whole teams, and compromising the well-being of their entire workforce. Especially when we know the benefits of diversity in the #workplace, which span from employee #retention to HIGHER REVENUE (McKinsey & Company) Beyond this, it’s also important to recognise that #inclusion matters to your people… and as we saw with our own research (conducted in partnership with Dr Jasmine Kelland & University of Plymouth) people will and are, voting with their feet.. if you don’t consider their unique circumstances, needs, wants, values or voice. Anyone looking to do better this year, I urge you to have a chat with Tiffany or Marcel De Jonghe, CMgr MCMI ☎️ both of whom have decades of experience in this space. And for anyone looking for a simple, effective way to support the well-being of their #workingparents, well.. you know where I am 🙋♀️ What are you standing up for in 2024?

Are you a data hater? Attended the WORKTECH Manchester event for Spica Technologies and heard an intriguing panel discussion on data in the workplace. It's not about hating data but managing its complexities to drive effective outcomes. In the workplace, data's power and currency is undeniable and growing. But it can be overwhelming. Which data to use? What to measure? Which tools to trust? Who owns and interprets it without bias? It can feel like navigating a maze. Tom K., a data specialist from Cordless Consultants advises starting small, understanding your problem, and enjoying the process like a new hobby. Data scientists, he says, are more like artists than robots. Love that! The issue today is often data overload without the expertise to manage it. Laura Mohomed from Tetra Pak pointed out that wellbeing can't always be defined by data and KPIs. Dr Cecilia Ellis from The Manchester Metropolitan University emphasised guiding the next workplace generation to learn a holistic approach when utilising data and being able to communicate it effectively. Ulrich Blum from Zaha Hadid Architects discussed using data to design workplaces that can evolve with time. Dr. Dale Whelehan talk on the 4 day week was inspiring - why not embrace it to gain more time affluence? Thanks to Toby Mildon form Mildon for his presentation and book - Building Inclusivity. A big thank you to Edward Hobbs from x+why for hosting in a great venue and Kasia Maynard for chairing, and the great think tank sessions. Lots of industry experts there such as Peter Beesley from Marks and Spencer, Holly Redman from Autotrader, Jane Watson from XY Sense, Leanne Wookey from tp bennett, Jenny Proctor MCIPD from AstraZeneca and Rachel Ashworth form Barclays. Overall a fantastic day! #WORKTECHManchester #worklplace #technology #people #innovation #DigitalTransformation #DigitalWorkplace #EmployeeExperience #FutureOfWork #productivity #collaboration #WorkplaceWellness #analytics #office
