Let's talk about IT solutions in logistics🚚 ⠀ We interviewed Andrew Lander, CEO of CODESKA, about the processes that can be improved in the logistics business through automation – here's what he had to say: ⠀ ➖ In what areas do these solutions help logistics companies, changing processes and making them more efficient? ⠀ ➖ The right IT solutions can benefit any industry, in principle. The key is to identify the problem correctly and understand how to solve it. Logistics as an industry is divided into several sub-industries – maritime, container, land, aviation, etc. All of these are integrated into a larger supply chain. ⠀ ➖ Let's take a specific link in this chain as an example. ⠀ ➖ Let's say there's a courier company. Only 15 couriers for a city of a million people. Orders pour in from different parts of the city every day. Questions arise: "How to distribute couriers properly to ensure timely delivery? What can be done to prevent couriers from losing packages? What happens if they lose a package?" This is what we call "last-mile logistics." ⠀ In this case, many would opt to plan a certain load for the couriers so that they return to the warehouse several times and then distribute the packages again. BUT! This elongates the logistical process, is inconvenient, and requires constant monitoring. Nowadays, we are spoiled by fast service and want everything to be quicker. That's where automation comes in – to ensure all processes (order submission, processing, route planning, etc.) are always clear and don't need to be done manually. ⠀ ➖ Are there any challenges related to automation? ⠀ ➖ Let me give you an example: you order a product on Amazon, and the courier calls and says, "I'll be there from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m." You ask for a later time – but it's not possible, why? There could be various reasons: perhaps there are too few couriers, maybe poor calendar planning, or system glitches. ⠀ What can be done in this case from an IT perspective? Integrate a platform system that handles inventory in warehouses with a calendar system that allows proper load distribution among couriers. The top-tier systems even include call handling. So, it becomes one mega-system comprising micro-systems, each solving a specific issue. From these micro-systems, we create a custom system for our partners.

Traditionally, at the end of the year, it is customary to sum up the results. Let's look at what positive developments have occurred in leading logistics companies in 2023. One of the notable success stories involves UPS, a global logistics heavyweight. In 2023, as Bill Seward announced, UPS launched UPS Supply Chain Symphony™! This new platform transforms the way businesses oversee their supply chains, providing an integrated, comprehensive view of transportation, warehousing, and inventory. From supplier management services, across your entire supply chain, all the way through to returns. DHL, another industry giant, celebrated significant advancements in technology and automation throughout 2023. Christopher Fuss introduced Smart Printables. The next generation of smart labels will be both smart and printable (at low cost!), allowing to do things we couldn’t before – on a global scale. These innovative technologies are slowly turning paper-thin, printed labels into sophisticated smart devices. FedEx launched a cutting-edge import sorting system at Stansted Airport, capable of sorting 6,000 packages per hour. The system uses advanced barcode scanning for real-time updates, has flexible loading options, and can intercept and redirect shipments based on post-Brexit customs regulations. Alun Cornish said: “This technology will help us maintain our exceptional customer service by getting goods to our customers as quickly as possible.” Maersk transformed e-commerce fulfillment with a cutting-edge, AI and robotics-powered center in Dallas, spanning 38,000 square feet in collaboration with Fabric. As Erez A. emphasied, this partnership combines global logistics expertise with Fabric's automation technology, optimizing warehouse productivity and efficiently managing 25,000 SKUs. It ensures rapid same-day or next-day delivery, reduced shipping costs, and accelerated delivery times, addressing the evolving needs of modern e-commerce. As we reflect on the positive events in the logistics industry in 2023, it becomes clear that famous logistics companies such as UPS, DHL, FedEx, and Maersk have played pivotal roles in driving positive change. Their achievements in sustainability, technology adoption, collaborative partnerships, and digitalization have not only propelled their individual success but have also contributed to shaping the future of the global logistics landscape. As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the new year, let us extend our sincere and kind wishes to the entire logistics industry in 2024. May the coming year bring continued innovation, sustainable practices, and collaborative efforts that further elevate the industry's standards. Rise of 3PL in Logistics...
𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟑𝗣𝗟𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 Third-party logistics (3PL) is a partner or service that assists manufacturers specially ecommerce merchants to outsource activities related to logistics and distribution. A third-party logistics company provides specialized services such as inventory management, cross-docking, door-to-door delivery, and packaging of products. This, in turn, aids enterprises in providing a better customer experience, ensuring scalability, mitigating the risks of product damages, promoting business growth and market expansion, and enabling the completion of core business operations. Furthermore, the third-party logistics model delivers greater asset utilization and asset sharing alliances, which increases its demand, and contributes toward the growth of the 3PL market. At present, third-party logistics is commercially available in varying transportation modes and service types, including dedicated contract carriage (DCC), domestic and international transportation management. Companies that provide international deliveries typically work with two or three dozen delivery partners specializing in different geographic areas. Large e-commerce companies, such as Amazon, have huge in-house teams that act as their third-party logistics. They spend a lot of money and effort managing, controlling, and improving their logistics. Moreover, Kestraa, a Brazilian logistics startup, raised $2.7 million funding from Canary Ventures and various angel investors for logistics software. Kestraa is a cloud-based B2B solution for freight-management, connecting ship-owners, cargo agents, freight forwarders, government systems, and more. The software allows stakeholders to manage their shipments, anticipate delays, and optimize on delivery time. Customers are also able to monitor the delivery process of their goods. ⏩ 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 : https://lnkd.in/dccsXf_K The global third-party logistics (3PL) market size was valued at $1.3 trillion in 2021, and is projected to reach $2.8 trillion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2022 to 2031.
