When the oil content increases in fluid, it rises to the liquid’s surface and blocks off the air. This provides a rich environment for anaerobic bacteria to reproduce. When the dirt in the liquid increases, anaerobic bacteria feed off the dirty components and build rapidly. This causes the liquid to deteriorate and stink. 👎👃 The JCC-HM uses shop air to generate microbubbles, lifting the dirt that causes bacteria to the surface and separating it from the cutting oil. And as oxygen increases, anaerobic bacteria decrease, and the smell dissipates. Frozen food storage Water exhibits various anomalous properties attributed to its ability to form hydrogen bonds. Its high melting point (0°C at 1 atm) is over 100°C higher than expected based on other dihydrides. In ice (Ih), all water molecules form static hydrogen bonds, while in liquid water, breaking weaker hydrogen bonds is necessary for molecular movement during melting. The high boiling point of water (100°C at 1 atm) is over 150°C higher than expected, mainly due to extensive hydrogen bonding preventing easy release of water molecules from the liquid surface, reducing vapor pressure. Water’s high heat of vaporization (40.7 kJ mol⁻¹ at 1 atm) results from breaking hydrogen bonds during the conversion from liquid to vapor. The contraction of liquid water on melting is an anomaly, with volume increasing by about 9% when freezing at 0°C. This is due to the open structure of ice Ih and the rearrangement of hydrogen bonds during melting. Water’s high latent heat of fusion (335 kJ kg⁻¹ at 0°C) is attributed to energy involved in hydrogen bond formation in the ice crystal. Additionally, water’s high surface tension (72.75 dyn cm⁻¹ at 20°C) results from hydrogen bonds pulling molecules toward the liquid phase, requiring energy to move a molecule from the bulk water to the surface. Water’s unique properties contribute to its significance in biological and physical processes.
