Not a pretty site Mapping data from NASA shows the extent of wildfires raging across the Northwest Territories and British Columbia where several towns have been damaged, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes. The Fire Information for Resource Management System U.S./Canada (FIRMS) created by NASA and the USDA Forest Service shows real-time updates of where wildfires are in Canada and the U.S. and how intensely they’re burning.🇨🇦🇺🇸🔥 As of Saturday afternoon, there are 236 active fires in the Northwest Territories and 380 in British Columbia. Canada has seen an unprecedented wildfire season as thousands of kilometres of land have been burned, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes and cross into neighbouring towns, provinces and territories.

Yesterday, 1st June, marked the start of hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean. 🌀 Ahead of any rowing expedition, you spend hours each day looking at weather patterns. With no engine and no motor or sail, we can’t avoid storms, we can only prepare and make plans for what we will do when they hit us. We carry specific kit and equipment which can help us in these scenarios. When I rowed the Atlantic last year, we got the kit ready, but actually ended up rowing with the storm. It sent us temporarily on a different course, but was the safest thing to do. Looking back on it, I believe it propelled us forward, and actually made the crossing quicker. Systems for predicting the weather get better by the day. I’m currently using a Norwegian programme which is amazing! NASA can see hurricanes from space, both with satellites and astronaut views from the @ISS. This vantage point helps scientists understand how climate change impacts hurricanes and learn how communities can better prepare for tropical cyclones in a warmer world. #ThanksIngenuity After a journey of exploration that has captured the hearts and imaginations of people around the world, the heroic Mars 🚁 Ingenuity has officially completed its mission on the Red Planet. 🔴 Designed for 5 flights, Ingenuity defied the odds and soared through the Martian skies a staggering 72 times, dramatically exceeding all expectations. Each flight brought new discoveries and pushed the boundaries of what we thought possible in aerial exploration on another world. But all good things must come to an end. Following a challenging 72nd flight over tricky Martian terrain, Ingenuity experienced a rough landing, which has led to damage to its rotor blades. 🚁 On January 18, amidst the dust and rocks of Mars, the little chopper made its final touchdown.
