Here's a really cool graphic showing how a racing tyre generates grip relative to slip angle. Last week, I was at Silverstone testing a Cobra Daytona fitted with our very latest GPS + IMU to measure pitch, roll and yaw. The graph is a plot of lateral grip versus slip angle, and the black line is the average of these values derived from the whole session, and added in post processing. You can see just how forgiving the Avon historic tyre is, with the lateral grip hardly dropping off, even with significant slip angles. We were using a VBOX3i + our latest IMU05S, with RTK corrections being received from a local base station to achieve 2cm positional accuracy around the entire circuit. #vehicledynamics #vehicletesting #vehicletechnology #gnss #inertialnavigation #tyreindustry #gnss #tyres #technology
