Because people with cystic fibrosis are less able to produce sputum (or phlegm) while taking CFTR modulators, we are focused on developing new tests to detect and diagnose infections without using sputum. We are following up on promising work to use blood, urine, or even breath to determine which bacteria are present in the lungs. For more information on infection research: https://lnkd.in/ghzypk47

"Identification and Characteristics of Multidrug-Resistant Ureaplasm urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis Isolates among Female Patients with Recurrent Non-Gonococcal Urethritis in a Tertiary Hospital, China" has been published in #CEOGjournal at https://lnkd.in/g4cKzrRT. Among outpatients with recurrent NGU, the U. urealyticum infection dominated, followed by M. hominis, mixed U. urealyticum and M. hominis infection. Minomycine and doxycycline are recommended for empirical clinical treatment. The determination of U. urealyticum and M. hominis infection, antibiotic susceptibility testing is crucial for effective therapy. What is Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), and what treatment options are available? Primary and recurring CDI continues to afflict patients worldwide; it remains the most common bacterial infection seen in hospitals. The SARS-CoV-2 infection has significantly impacted CDI, with some research suggesting that CDI may worsen the course and prognosis of COVID-19. Over the last several years, treatment options for CDI have been evolving. What is the state of the research on the latest treatments? ARTICLE ON: URINARY TRACT INFECTION A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a collective term for infections that involve any part of the urinary tract. It is one of the most common infections in local primary care. The incidence of UTIs in adult males aged under 50 years is low, with adult women being 30 times more likely than men to develop a UTI. Appropriate classification of UTI into simple or complicated forms guides its management and the ORENUC classification can be used. Diagnosis of a UTI is based on a focused history, with appropriate investigations depending on individual risk factors. Simple uncomplicated cystitis responds very well to oral antibiotics, but complicated UTIs may require early imaging, and referral to the emergency department or hospitalisation to prevent urosepsis may be warranted. Escherichia coli remains the predominant uropathogen in acute community-acquired uncomplicated UTIs and amoxicillin-clavulanate is useful as a first-line antibiotic. Family physicians are capable of managing most UTIs if guided by appropriate history, investigations and appropriate antibiotics to achieve good outcomes and minimise antibiotic resistance. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

Document Type: Mini-reviews Articles Author Georgina Balyorugulu Kamanga Medics Zonal Referral Hospital 10.21608/AJGH.2024.258442.1047 Abstract Helicobacter pylori infection is the most common infection of the gastrointestinal system worldwide, with an estimated 50% of the world’s population is infected. The infection is acquired early in childhood, with most pathological symptoms present in adulthood. Transmission is mainly fueled by overcrowding and poor sanitation. Diagnosis in children considers criteria that call for testing and further investigation to eradicate infection. Since this infection is common, one must consider a different approach when suspecting Helicobacter pylori infection in the pediatric population, from the definition of index case to the diagnostic approach and eradication. https://lnkd.in/dQA5-Wnu

Immune response to Schistosomiasis: T helper 1 (TH1) cell–biased inflammatory responses dominated at early time points (4 weeks after infection), and male and female parasites induced similar responses. At 8 weeks after infection, TH2 and regulatory cell responses were more dominant and were consistent with responses seen during chronic infection. Full read: https://lnkd.in/dQipjc8R
