Upcoming motion to develop a funding policy framework for ALL Town of Aurora “Community Partners” that receive Town funds with an aim towards ensuring consistency and fairness in Council decision making processes. I believe it is imperative to establish clear and transparent criteria for how Council determines whether or how much to fund Town of Aurora “Community Partners”, in particular as it speaks to determining reasonable reserve amounts. In this way, we will better ensure financial stability and foster responsible fiscal practices. Our job as a Council is to set – and base our decisions on - clear policies, and this motion seeks to do exactly that. #LeadershipThatGetsThingsDone https://lnkd.in/g-jZp-5Q

🌟"What is a council worth?" I was honoured to be asked to speak at this Compass event on Councils and the We're Right Here Campaign. 🏙️ For most of us, councils are the level of government we interact with the most day-to-day. From potholes 🕳️, delays 🚦, to air quality on our commutes 🚗, and our parks 🌳, streets 🏘️, and housing 🏠; councils shape the very fabric of our homes and communities. But across the UK, councils are facing financial struggles 💰, and with them, the breakdown of important social and democratic spaces and institutions. 🌏 But what if we had the power to take over our places and spaces and utilise them in the best way we can for the community around us? 🤝 I spoke about how a Community Power Act can support us better with this, with more engaged and thriving communties, who would finally have control of their places and spaces. #Compass #LocalGovernment #ProgressiveChange 🚀

Student Trainee @ Federal Energy Regulatory Commission | Engaging audiences through results-driven communications | Award-winning civic leader
One insight I've seen from my Independent Study course on #publicaffairs and #government so far is that getting public participation is essential. From an administrative perspective, it: 👉 Provides feedback on policies and programs 👉 Improves outcomes of budgeting for local communities 👉 Empowers communities to tackle issues they face with government as a partner in strategy and services While working in government communications and #publicrelations, I see ensuring public participation as absolutely crucial to governments and nonprofits because it serves as a fantastic metric of success. What do you think? Is citizen participation important?
