🇩🇪 Emigrating to Germany might soon get easier—awesome news, right? But let's zoom out and look at the bigger picture: there's still so much to do about integration. I've had my fair share of challenging moments in this beautiful maze called Germany. Housing, language, and the notorious German bureaucracy—yep, been there, stumbled through all that. Yet, like any country, Germany's like a hidden gem, a book with an underrated cover. It boasts an amazing work/life balance and overall incredible quality of life. But, here's the kicker: According to the 2023 Expat Insider survey, Germany ranked the 49th spot out of 53. In my opinion, it's not just about waiting for Germans to make the changes; we, the senior expats, can be the game-changers! It’s been 20 years since Poland among other CEE and Baltic countries has joined European Union! This was a milestone for our part of Europe marking start of significant economic transformation and growth. Against all doubts this region has proved to be important and ready to contribute to EU success together with the “old fifteen”. Joining European Union has boosted our economy as well as mobility, CEE citizens massively migrated and added dynamics to open labor markets. This 20 years are also a good moment to remind that bus markets in many CEE countries were opened years before in the old EU. Some countries still keep it closed against good examples from neighboring regions. Today UE still needs a lot of effort to make mobility easier, more open and less bureaucratic. That concerns all means of transportation including especially buses and trains. New challenges are just around the corner, hopefully soon, accession of Ukraine which will further boost mobility on unprecedented scale! Among many things EU integration allowed us at Flix to build such networks across whole continent, but still we can and we want to do more! Happy 20th anniversary! #EU #anniversary #mobility

🌍 Globalization: Is Germany ready? What foreign guest workers criticize about Germans Germany is a strong country but relies heavily on guest workers. However, these guest workers also criticize us and the social competence within Germany. And indeed, there is room for improvement in social skills in Germany! 🙋In our culture, it is normal to do a lot on your own, to spend time by yourself, and to work things out with yourself. Even at work, it's perfectly normal to spend your lunch break alone at your desk instead of socializing. It's different abroad. Companionship is practiced, and social contacts are enormously important for emotional well-being. 👉🏼 Social skills in Germany should definitely be improved, not only to make us more attractive to the rest of the world, but also for ourselves as a nation. In my opinion, schools and educational institutions would be a good place to start. Because where better to begin than at a young age? ❔ What is your opinion on this? "How to book an appointment with a German authority? 🤔 This is one of the most frequently asked questions that I get on different matters. Unfortunately, there is no streamlined appointment booking system in Germany and the application procedures may vary between the different federal states within Germany. Here are some tips on how you can make an appointment at one of the authorities: Immigration authority: If you don't know which immigration authority is responsible for you and you don't know where to book an appointment, you can type into Google: Ausländerbehörde + city name to find the necessary form. For example, Ausländerbehörde + Berlin. (Link for Berlin added in the comments) In some cities, you might be able to book appointments over the phone or simply walk in. Citizen office: Did you know that you should register within 14 days when moving to Germany? I know it’s easier said than done, and booking an appointment on time can be challenging. You can type Bürgeramt + city name to find the authority that is responsible for you. (Link for Berlin added in the comments) Sometimes there are no slots left, refreshing the page helps. If you’re flexible, you can check for slots on the same day, as sometimes slots are released. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱? 🇫🇮 Lately I've been seeing a lot of negativity around immigration and employment. Whether it's about the current job market and how difficult it can be to find meaningful employment. Or heated debates about Finland being unaccessible to migrants, due to policies or societal views. The current political situation places stress on the system, debt, unemployment, changing laws and war, surely did no favours to the situation. Surrounding ourselves with echo chambers of negativity only makes things worse. It will make situations that are perfectly fine, feel like dreaded hours of doom scrolling a topic that is much smaller than you imagine. So lets pause the negativity for a moment 🙏 Take a moment to remember why you moved here. Why did you come to Finland? And remember all the nice things that are here. For me, I can't wait for nature to look like this again (soon...). The ability to just grab my backpack and go into nature, without needing permits or paying for commercial campsites. Being able to go places without other humans, experiencing the joy of just driving through the countryside without swarms of other cars around me. Exploring the national parks, breathe some of the cleanest air on our planet and take pictures like the one I took last year and added to this post. Whatever situation has you down right now, whether it's a job search or dealing with stress about the world situation. Just remember... This too, shall pass. 🧘♂️ So, what is it that you love about living in Finland?
