This week, ClearPath brought a delegation of eight Senate staff to Washington state as part of its Clean Energy Innovation Academy (CEIA)! The delegation visited Energy Northwest’s Generating Station, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Ebb Carbon and PNNL Marine Sciences Laboratory - Sequim Bay, and Helion. Some of the trip highlights included seeing a nuclear reactor, visiting the soon-to-be-dedicated Energy Storage Launchpad at PNNL, observing how carbon dioxide is removed from water, and viewing a next-gen fusion generator up close. An all-of-the-above energy approach is needed to meet our energy goals and maintain grid reliability and affordability. It’s critical for American energy independence and meeting growing electricity demand that the U.S. leads in the development and deployment of these innovative technologies. ClearPath’s Conservative Climate Leadership Program (CCLP) gathered future energy leaders earlier this week at the “Powering Your Energy Career: Connections and Conversations for Young Energy Professionals in Washington.” Highlights included: - A fireside chat with Stephanie Bice and Ryan Costello;  - An interactive activity with Luke Bolar working on doubling the energy grid by 2050; - A workshop on bridging the communications gap between generations in the workplace; and - A panel discussion moderated by Andrea Steiner with Grant Cummings, Karly Matthews, and Ashley Higgins on their respective energy career paths. As the need for clean, affordable, reliable energy grows, so does the need for passionate young professionals. CCLP is investing in the careers of our future energy leaders, and the program is set up to provide promising options to fill staffing needs in Congressional offices. Energy demand could double in the coming decades. In order to keep up with the need for more clean energy, we need to let America build. ClearPath Action supports the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 introduced by Senators Barrasso and Manchin, which will modernize the energy permitting system to meet increasing energy demand and maintain American energy leadership. This bipartisan legislation addresses a handful of permitting problems affecting technologies including natural gas, critical minerals, renewables, and enabling infrastructure like pipelines and transmission. "Today, you can get a college degree faster than it takes to get a permit to develop new clean energy resources — that simply has to change. Sens. In December 2023, the DOE Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) selected three carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) projects totaling $890 million: - Baytown CCS Project in Texas, - Project Tundra in North Dakota, and - The Sutter Decarbonization Project in California. Congress has put the pieces on the table to scale up CCUS. If we have the permitting piece and put them all together, the U.S. can reduce emissions and continue leading the world.
