Our design team recently returned from the Figma Conference, where they gained valuable insights into the latest design trends and technologies.
They got a sneak peek at some exciting new features Figma announced, including:
🌀 UI3: updated interface with a smoother design workflow
🌀 Figma AI: help with things like naming layers, auto layout, and component search
🌀 Figma Slides: build presentation decks that include live website and app prototypes
The conference provided a fantastic platform for professional development. The team connected with fellow design professionals and potential collaborators, fostering new partnerships.
They also enjoyed inspiring talks from industry leaders at Zillow, Work Louder, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, teenage engineering, and Cash App. ✨
We're excited to have our design team back, brimming with innovative ideas and a renewed passion for creating exceptional designs.

Uff, week 2 of nights and weekends =)
The assignment is to create a toy version of your project. I had a choice between making a Figma prototype or a test run in Aero. I figured Aero can actually help me decide on aesthetics and I just really wanted to see something out there in the wild 😁.
So here I go, to Little Tokyo, Los Angeles to test 3 experience options. First one had severe altitude misalignment, second actually worked quite well and you can see the recording below, third refused to load (probably due to size, it was the most complex version). Success rate of 30% 😅? Very happy that my masks worked well, getting all the geometry right is one of the most annoying parts. Excited to keep fine-tuning this and show you the progress!
If you are in Little Tokyo, please check it out https://lnkd.in/gx-DG4Wp
I will keep updating this experience, so you will get all the updates on the same link 😊.

Did someone call you Crazy
Then you shouldn't be angry, because a crazy mind is not limited to a lot of innovations, most of the inventions we see today were once someone crazy and out of normal human thinking.
The way to achieve the best innovation is to go crazy with your ideas and creativity. Can you imagine how crazy NASA was to think that someone could go out of Earth and visit space, what was Albert Einstein thinking when he invented the light bulb? or what Alexander Graham Bell was thinking when he invented the telephone? or how crazy the Wright brothers might be to think someone could fly in the air in a metal container and a combination of engines. But look their crazy ideas and creativity changed the world.
Your Crazy idea today can be the beginning of a better future for someone or the world at large. The only limitation you have is you so go crazy with your ideas and creativity. So when someone calls you a crazy person for your ideas, tell them you are a Crazy Innovator.
Today's design is about a prototype view of a Shoe Store reel slider, I created to pass the time.

🚀 Update on my Austin MetroBike Project 🌐
I'm thrilled to share the latest enhancements in my Three.js 3D visualization, which is transforming our view of Austin's bike program. Let's take a deeper look at how the city of Austin uses their bike sharing program.
📍 How Does It Work?
- Dynamic Animation: Observe animated particles that traverse between kiosks, each symbolizing 100 trips.
- Volume Significance: The density of particles directly correlates to trip frequency, revealing popular routes and connections.
- Visual Clarity: A subtle offset in particle paths enriches the visual depth and eases understanding.
- 🆕 Color Coding: Soon, you'll see routes color-coded based on traffic volume, making it even easier to identify the busiest paths at a glance.
🎯 The Goal
My aim is to morph raw data into an intuitive and interactive storytelling medium. It goes beyond mere visualization; it's about narratively charting the ebbs and flows of urban bike mobility.
👀 Why This Matters
This visualization isn't just a treat for the eyes; it's a critical tool for:
- City Planners: To refine and optimize bike networks.
- Businesses: For pinpointing key areas for services and outreach.
- Public Insight: Empowering everyone to grasp and engage with local transportation infrastructures.
- Evolving Urban Planning: A vital component of a larger suite of tools to deepen our understanding of micro-mobility's influence.
💡 What’s Next: Interactive and Colorful!
Here's a sneak peek at the upcoming interactive features:
- Adjustable Views: Soon, users will be able to modify particle parameters, offering customized visualization.
- Kiosk Spotlight: Specific kiosk focus for detailed analysis.
- Temporal Analysis: Implementing date filters to better understand usage patterns over chosen time frames.
- Color-Coded Traffic: Introducing an intuitive color-coding system to represent traffic volume, enhancing readability and insights.
I'm eager for your thoughts, feedback, or questions! How can we untangle the complexity of urban mobility together?
A very special shout out to Engin Arslan's "Learning 3D Graphics on the Web with Three.js" LinkedIn Learning course. This would quite literally be impossible without his excellent resource. Thank you!
Keep building. Make it matter.

Meta’s Reality Labs Research introduces SceneScript, a method that uses machine learning to infer a room’s geometry from visual data, resulting in a compact and interpretable representation of physical scenes. Trained on the Aria Synthetic Environments dataset containing 100,000 unique interior environments, SceneScript can predict architectural elements and object locations.

🌟 Design Innovation: A Blend of Empathy, Nature, and Courage! 🌟
Inspired by recent talks at Config 2024, I've been thinking about the power of design innovation. Here's what I learned:
🧠 Empathy and Communication: Joyce Croft from NASA highlights how design can be therapeutic, building trust and understanding in technical teams. “Effective communication and empathy help build trust, facilitate collaboration, and ultimately lead to more innovative and user-centered designs.”
🌱 Nature as Inspiration: Simon Green, a creature designer, emphasizes, “Nature provides an unlimited source of creativity and problem-solving examples, having evolved solutions over billions of years.” We can learn so much from the natural world!
💡 Embrace Uncertainty: Michael Di Genova's journey in hardware design proves that with the right mindset, even what you don't know can lead to great innovation. “Sometimes we just need somebody to push us out of that cycle and show us that we're closer to that goal than we think we are.”
🔄 Interdisciplinary Learning: Drawing insights from various fields can lead to breakthroughs. @Alice Grandoit-Šutka’s approach to design for social change through narratives shows how diverse perspectives enrich our solutions.
Let's continue to embrace these principles and drive impactful innovation in our work! 🚀✨ #DesignInnovation#Empathy#Nature#Learning#Creativity#Config#figma#ProductDesign#ProductDesigner#UXUIDesign#UXUIDesigner

Can AI be your architectural design and rendering assistant? How useful are these tools really?
While I am not using BIM tools these days like Revit or Archicad - I am mostly designing virtual architecture for VR and games, I thought it would be interesting to show an example of how one could go about using one such tool namely LookX AI in exploring architectural design.
While it is interesting to have Midjourney or Dall-E come up with crazy architectural designs from just words, it is much more useful if you can steer the AI by using a sketch of your own design.
In 2014 I designed a futuristic skyscraper for a Finnish made video game called Reset. While the game was never completed I think the 3D model I created is a pretty good starting point for AI. It is fairly simple, yet has some structure to the facade.
The enclosed image shows the input images that went into LookX AI including a reference style image which was an arch viz image we did many years ago.
My point here is that you absolutely can and in my opinion should drive and influence the image and design generation by providing references of your own or those that you are inspired by.
