More than 1,500 executives and investors from the hydrogen industry will come together September 14-15 in London for the “Investing in Green Hydrogen 2023” event. 🌟 During the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition, several national hydrogen associations across Europe have united forces, marking an important moment in the advancement of clean hydrogen technologies!   🌐 With 23 national associations in attendance, the attendants witnessed the historic signing of the Cooperation Charter for European Associations Advancing Clean Hydrogen. 👤 Proudly representing the Estonian Association of Hydrogen Technologies, our CEO, Marko Virkebau signed the cooperation charter. What's in the Charter? Here are the key principles driving our shared mission:  🔹 Advocacy for comprehensive policy support at all levels.  🔹 Collaboration to foster thriving clean hydrogen markets and skills development.  🔹 Support for effective EU legislation integration into national frameworks.  🔹 Sharing best practices and active participation in European events.  🔹 Forming alliances to advocate for hydrogen's crucial role in reducing carbon emissions. 📑 The discussions, including a keynote address from Karlo Van Dam, Director of Sustainable Industry at the Dutch Ministry of Economics and Climate, centred around transposing the Renewable Energy Directive and ensuring favourable regulatory environments across Member States. European Hydrogen Week kicked off today with some big news: 🟣 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the 2nd auction of the Hydrogen Bank for the Spring of 2024! 🟣With the pilot auction (€800m) being launched on 23 November, the Commission will allocate a further €2.2bn to the 2nd auction ! 💭 Positive development. Now we need to make sure the auctions focus on renewable hydrogen and targeting hard to abate sectors 💡 We need to add non-price criteria to auctions in the second round. This shouldn't be just a race to the bottom (cheapest bids win). This is also a race to the top - best technology, benefits to local communities, local value creation, jobs, reskilling, fair wages, making sure there's no forced labour in our value chains - to name a few criteria. The discussion on hydrogen in the EU since the H2 strategy came out in 2020 has been characterised by extremes. We've gone from hydrogen euphoria to hydrogen gloom more recently in 2023. A reality check was needed and now the debate is really maturing. Looking forward to more interesting discussions with folks from across the value chain this week in Brussels! PS.
