💡 Before reading a post yesterday and then watching this video, I believed the Tesla#cybertruck was just another crazy design idea that some hate and some love, serving only a niche market and not adding much value to the sector and the needed transformation.
🔋But I just learned the Cybertruck is revolutionary, not only to #electricvehicles but to the automotive industry.
You better watch the video; sharing a few highlights below:
🔴 4X increase in low voltage system (from 12V standard to 48V). The last change was 70 years ago! It seems like a small change, but it's a huge development. Elon even sent a guide to other OEMs on "how-to-design-a-48-volt-vehicle" (see this post from Ford´s CEO https://lnkd.in/d8JCYd8a).
🔴 Steer-by-wire: Related to the 48-volt system. There is no physical connection between the steering wheel and the front/rear wheels.
🔴 Gigabit Ethernet architecture with Power over Ethernet instead of traditional CAN Bus (latency of only half a millisecond, enough bandwidth to allow various controllers to communicate in real-time).
🔴 Revolutionary materials, structure, and safety.
🚗 Remember that we can´t solve mobility-related emissions, other transportation problems, and inefficiencies by replacing every vehicle with an electric version.
Much innovation is needed; we need connected/automated vehicles, supporting policies, and new business models to transition to a more efficient model. And I believe the Cybertruck will definitely contribute to this.

To close out 2023, I had the distinct pleasure of being a guest of John McElroy's Autoline After Hours (the last episode of 2023) with fellow heavyweights from the industry, Reuters - Joe White & Munro & Associates - Sandy Munro.
Sandy started out the show giving us a download of his experience & observations attending the Tesla#Cybertruck delivery event in Austin, TX on November 30th.
From there we talked about everything from batteries, legacy OEMs & software, OEM management teams and of course 🇨🇳 EV Inc. Sandy even gave us a short chemistry lesson! We also cleared up a few misconceptions and bad takes re: EVs.
It was a ton of fun & always a pleasure 'talking shop' with other automotive / EV / battery / transportation nerds. I appreciate that none of us tried to sugarcoat the challenges ahead for 🌍 Legacy Auto. And how much time they DO NOT have to get their sh*t together.

Initially, I thought Tesla might have missed a step. Historically, their product launches have set new industry standards in range, pricing, speed, and innovative production techniques. However, a closer examination, as highlighted in this insightful review, revealed something more profound.
Tesla isn’t just advancing the automotive industry; they are revolutionizing it. The Cybertruck is more than its bold aesthetics; it’s a hub of technological breakthroughs:
