✍️ 'Sack civil servants who don’t show up to work,' writes James Price The #Government, and indeed every government, rightly comes in for wave after wave of abuse for their myriad failings across multiple fronts. But when I say “government” you are likely, and understandably, to think about the 100 or so ministers, or perhaps the cadre of roughly 100 “special advisers”, of which I am a recovering alumnus. But those 200 or so people are the only ones who change when a new administration comes in, and are also the ones who can be “held accountable” in any meaningful sense when things go wrong. When was the last time you heard of one of the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of civil servants taking real responsibility for their mistakes? An inability to move people on who aren’t up to the task would not be tolerated in the private sector, but in the public sector it is par for the course. The state is now so enormous that it’s impossible for senior #politicians to catch all the failures on a day-to-day basis, let alone get the space to look at bigger structural weaknesses. This is partially why, along with a diminution in the quality of elected representatives, there are so many major mistakes and failings. And now we are hearing that to try to coax Britain’s “Rolls Royce” civil servants back into Whitehall departments, #Cabinet Office minister John Glen wants to ensure that making full use of offices is factored into their annual reviews. Things are bad enough when #officials do actually turn up. Look at the Home Office officials who have reportedly disobeyed instructions around immigration enforcement because they thought it too mean and nasty for a sovereign nation to try to control its borders. They obfuscate, run down the clock until it is too late to action ministers’ commands, and many will subtly attempt to subvert the Government’s agenda. Read more ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eUwEMjBS

What a go Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh. Not only do you increase the size of government by 40% but just like you two left wing “Whacos” no one wants to put in a full day or weeks work. You know like showing up 5 days a week and working 40 hours which doesn’t included your 1 hour daily lunches and four 15 minute daily breaks. So in essence putting in 30 hours but being paid for 40 hours causes hardship by actually being in attendance at work. Then you wonder why business buildings are empty and surrounding small stores, cafes and restaurants are going under. You know the people that pay your people’s salaries who now want to stay home and not support them whilst they with no customers support them. Typical Trudeau and Singh chaos. The self entitlement of I want my government paycheque but I don’t want to show up to work to collect it! Besides the government pays me even more money for my government job via deductions by not showing up and staying at home. We should have them all audited on that as well. Afterall many collected Covid Cheques as well. https://lnkd.in/g5nZaVBS

Micro steps are still steps.
Today, the Government of Canada announced four members of a new panel of experts. Input shared with the panel, through various stakeholder engagement initiatives, will provide recommendations to inform the design of a new restorative engagement program (REP) for public service employees. This REP is part of a broader government-wide strategy to identify, address and prevent harassment, discrimination, and violence in the workplace. Learn more: https://ow.ly/TxTo50PZPNU

🇪🇺 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐏 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 At a public workshop held in #Vienna on 20 June 2024, #postal #stakeholders and policymakers identified several different #vulnerable groups which could be subject to special legal protections in a possible future revision of the EU postal #regulatory framework. Possible definitions of such vulnerable postal #users were wide-ranging and included, amongst others: - elderly people; - people with limited #digital skills; - people with physical or mental #disabilities; - people living in very #remote and #rural areas; and - economically deprived people. The European Regulators Group for Postal Services (#ERGP) organised the workshop, which was open to #stakeholders from the postal industry for the first time. Generally, the ERGP workshops have only been accessible to postal national regulatory #authorities (NRAs) of its member countries. NATIONAL POSTAL WORKER DAY National Postal Worker Day on July 1st recognizes postal workers all across the nation and encourages us to show our appreciation. Thank the numerous men and women who work consistently and diligently to deliver all of our mail. These employees suffer some of the harshest working conditions, yet continue to persevere six days a week. #NationalPostalWorkerDay Across the United States, postal workers walk an average of 4 to 8 miles carrying a full load of letters and packages, delivering them promptly to each of our doorsteps. Approximately 490,000 postal workers across the United States head out each day to our residences and businesses. Regardless of the weather, postal workers deliver all week long. Even when temperatures fluctuate from extreme heat and cold, the mail arrives. In the rain, sleet and blizzards, too, the mail gets delivered. #RealEstateMiami #SouthFloridaRealEstate #RealEstateSunnyIsles #SunnyIslesRealEstate #SunnyIslesEstate #RealEstateSouthFlorida #MiamiRealEstate #RealEstate #Realtor #houseexpert #househunting #home #RealEstateAgent #RealEstateBroker #RealEstateExpert #RealEstateForSale #Realty #Broker #HomeForSale #HouseForSale #PropertyForSale #HomeForSaleMiami #HomeForSaleSouthFlorid

Since first posting this I thought we need to really sock it to the MPs and election candidates. Now, before the election. Send them the link to Sharon Murdoch's cartoon and a copy of the Business Leaders report (available at http://www.forum.org.nz) and ask them to read at least the executive summary and pages 13, 15 and 18. Ask what they and their party will (not plan) to do about our woeful statistics. And point out action here would be good for the economy. and the workers.
Great cartoon by Sharon Murdoch - thank you! Nicely shows that the Australians are better than us at something else! Forward to your local MP and election candidates! https://lnkd.in/g-GEE587
