After years of consultations, discussions, studies, and planning, Infrastructure Malta's Msida Creek project plans have received approval from the Planning Authority. This significant project involves several key elements: 1. Replacement of the Msida Creek traffic lights junction with a new flyover, enhancing traffic flow and safety. 2. Introduction of safer facilities for alternative modes of travel, including a new cycling and walking track. 3. Creation of new recreational zones to beautify the surrounding areas, with 60% of the project dedicated to open public spaces. 4. Establishment of a 2,200 square meters piazza in front of the Parish Church and a seawater channel to prevent flooding, offering serene relaxation spots. 5. Improvement of public transport connections along the route, particularly for the widely used bus service. 6. Expansion of pavements and development of a segregated cycling and walking track along the seafront. 7. Construction of a solar-covered parking lot with 115 spaces. 8. Implementation of a comprehensive underground stormwater system to address long-standing flooding issues. 9. Post Title: Decoding UK Building Work Timings: When Can You Begin Construction in Residential Areas? - Information brought to you by AIM How often do you find yourself deliberating over the permissible hours for commencing construction work in UK’s residential areas? Legal stipulations dictate that construction noise is allowed from 8 AM to 6 PM on weekdays, extending to 1 PM on Saturdays. Weekends and bank holidays remain undisturbed by construction activity. Nevertheless, it’s prudent to confirm these timings with your local council due to possible variations based on your area's specifics. Stay tuned with us as AIM dissects the guidelines of construction hours in the UK, guiding you to avoid infringing any rules. Key Insights Typically, construction operations in residential neighbourhoods across the UK start from 8 AM until 6 PM on weekdays and from 8 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays. Sundays and bank holidays stay serene with zero construction permitted. Local council rules can redefine here the usual construction hours, with some permitting as early as 7 AM or stretching to 7 PM on weekdays. Consequently, it's paramount to liaise with your local council for the most accurate information. Suffering from incessant construction noise? Know that residents have the power to notify their local council, which can consequently enforce silent hours, issue noise abatement directives, or pursue legal procedures against repeated noise pollution offenders. Encouraging noise reduction strategies and active participation in the Considerate Constructors Scheme promotes a considerate approach to construction. Let AIM Unravel the Mystery of UK Construction Work Timings Ever wondered why construction zones kick into gear at specific hours? The timings, designed to strike a balance between societal development and peace, permit activity from 8 AM to 6 PM on weekdays. Saturdays have a shorter window, creating a considerate balance for the cacophony of construction work. Knowing these hours is significant for both project managers and those desiring tranquility in a bustling city scape. Monday to Friday work hours set the tone of urban progress. As the city clock strikes 8 AM, the rhythmic dance of construction comes alive, dying down at 6 PM. This framework ensures a judicious balance between societal growth and a peaceful living environment. Saturday construction operations are confined to the morning hours, 8 AM to 1 PM, allowing residents a chance to enjoy a tranquil weekend afternoon. This gesture demonstrates how a growing city can recognise and respect the value of downtime. Sundays and bank holidays remain untouched by the machinery of construction. It is deemed illegal for builders to begin work on Sundays, allowing residents a day of respite from the bustling city noises. Local council guidelines may alter the universal timings of construction. Some councils allow extensions to weekday timings, or even a unique timeline for Saturday work hours. Thes

News release: City to award bid for Lakeshore Drive improvement project Cold Lake, AB – Lakeshore Drive improvements are on the horizon, after city administration provided an update to City Council during the Aug. 8 regular meeting regarding the progress of the Lakeshore Drive Infrastructure Improvement Project. The City of Cold Lake received five submissions in response to Request for Tender for the “Lakeshore Drive Infrastructure Improvements – Sheet Pile Wall”. Prior to this project going out to tender a second time, the City decided to split this project into two phases. Phase 1A would be the sheet pile wall portion and phase 1B would be the landscaping of Lakeshore Drive from 2 Avenue to 7 Street. By completing the project in two phases, the City was able to reduce the overall cost and decrease the potential for project change orders and the need to extend the timeline for completion. The Lakeshore Drive Infrastructure Improvement Project was initiated in 2019 to improve the deteriorating underground utilities, road surface conditions, and slope stability issues along the lakeside. Another key component of the project is to establish and extend the Lakeshore Drive corridor as a continuation between the existing architectural and landscape themes at Kinosoo Beach to the Cold Lake Marina. The understanding is that all three areas (Beach, Marina, and Lakeshore Drive) together would not only provide an attraction to the local community but also be developed into a tourism destination attracting people from outside the region. The main purpose of providing this update to council was to seek permission to award the winning bid and thus committing the City to completing both phases of the project. Council was made aware that while the budget for the overall project was $30 million, funds had yet to be dedicated for the completion of phase 1B and would need to be considered during the upcoming 2024 budget deliberations. “The City has been patiently awaiting the start of this project, so it’s exciting to know that we are moving even closer to making it a reality. Lakeshore Drive not only links the Marina with Kinosoo Beach, but offers access to many businesses such as restaurants and B&B’s with a very popular walking trail.” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “The improvements being made will make it a lot easier for residents and visitors to drive, park, and walk this picturesque route along the lakeshore”. Administration will be notifying the contractor of the winning bid, with work expected to commence later this fall. An estimated timeline for completion is approximately one year, with work continuing through the winter months. - 30 -

Experienced Fire Protection | Life Safety | Loss Prevention | Technical Safety Engineering Professional | Emergency Management Specialist
Life Safety - Means of Egress Means of egress provide a safe path of escape from a fire or other emergency environment. The means of egress should be arranged to permit all occupants to reach a safe place before they are endangered by fire, smoke, or heat. The goal is for everyone to leave the hazardous areas in the shortest time possible. Egress must be continuous, unobstructed, and possible from any point in the building. Egress leads to a public way, a public area outside that is a minimum of 10 feet wide. Some examples include a street, alleyway, or park. Egress has three parts: Exit access – the portion that leads to the exit. Exit access can include aisles, corridors, hallways, and intermediate rooms. Exit access may or may not be fire-protected, but the critical thing to remember is that the length of the exit access is measured and regulated. Exit – the portion that provides a protected path between the exit access and the discharge. Exits must be fully enclosed and made of fire-resistive construction (walls, doors, windows). Exits are either 1-hour or 2-hour rated, depending on the building specifics. Exit discharge – the portion between the exit and the public way. While they are usually outside, common exit discharges include balconies and exterior stairways. In addition, some building lobbies qualify as exit discharge areas with some conditions.
