I walked into the airport the other morning for a quick day trip, and I wind up in the elevator with a flight attendant from the carrier I was using. We exchanged a few pleasantries and talked about our destinations for the day. When I share mine, they offered the following assessment: “Good luck. That airport is where hopes and dreams go to die.” Some people will read this and think that this response was not great. I felt differently about it. Flight attendants’ primary responsibility is passenger safety in the unlikely event of an emergency. If that ever happens, I’m more than happy to have a no-nonsense individual who will cut through pleasantries and do what’s required. But I might not put that person into public relations for the airline. I’m incredibly lucky to work with brilliant people across the multifamily industry, and I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen major problems result from tiny skill mismatches or gaps in process. Designers, developers, and contractors, all excellent, can’t connect because they are talking past each other. Like that flight attendant, someone who is brilliant in one role, may not be ideally suited for a different one. That’s where we can help. I work with clients every day developing custom solutions to bridge these issues across the multifamily industry and help them achieve their goals. If you have a challenge, drop me a line and let me know how we can help you.
