He picks up debris on the road to protect citizens, he has a great work ethic, and he went out of his way to return a lost possession to a citizen. These are just some of the reasons James Ballard, our fleet mechanic, earned the latest City All-Star Award. 🌟 Learn more about him here: bit.ly/AllStarBallard.

Three or four times a day, the sleek, sinister-looking B-2s roar out of their hangars, glide along a taxiway to the airstrip, push forward, and then seemingly levitate into the Missouri sky. They hook up with tankers, practice aerial refueling, cross a few states, carry out a practice bomb run, do some low-level hill dodging, and return. #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers

Charleston Harbor Tours uses Vessel Vanguard as the driving force for tracking maintenance. This allows them to focus on their day-to-day operations rather than focusing on paperwork and manually tracking maintenance tasks. #maintenancetracking #fleetmanagement #fleetmaintenance #charterboat #operationsmanagement

SAFETY IN MOVIES – MOVIES FOR SAFETY # 24 – SULLY, 2016 “𝘠𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘐𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘱𝘪𝘵” After a couple of niche films, let’s go back to a more well-known and celebrated movie, directed by a renowned and experienced director like Clint Eastwood. Like Matewan (see episode # 23) and several others, this is another film based on a true (and very well-known) story, that of “The Miracle on the Hudson”. On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 had a failure to both engines shortly after taking off NY’s LaGuardia airport and was forced to make an emergency water landing on Hudson River along the Manhattan shoreline. The extraordinary thing of the story was not only the fact that, against all odds, all 155 people on board (crew and passengers) survived, but also the ability of pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who relied more on his own experience and instinct than on procedures ("𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘯 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴, 𝘸𝘦’𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥!") to face a situation that had never been simulated or foreseen before. Despite the numerous dialogues and action scenes stripped down to the essential, “Sully” was able to keep me engaged through several flashbacks; it provided many insights into the importance of human factors, the search for responsibility and human error as well as “hindsight bias” and aviation safety. All insights that can be effectively used during safety training courses. The scenes in which Sully and his first officer, Jeff Skiles, acclaimed by the public, are challenged and questioned by the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) commission, are particularly thought-provoking. Other aspects I found of particular interest in this movie: - The importance of rigorous training and the ability to stay calm under heavy pressure - The impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on people - The need for challenging procedures that are inevitably based on events that have been foreseen - The importance of preparation, decision making and teamwork in emergency situations https://lnkd.in/esNmMzzy #safetytraining #safetyinmovies #aviationsafety #safetyculture #humanfactors #ptsdawareness

Inspirational is the word, which describes this lady's video, for me.
You may know her as “America’s oldest park ranger.” But that’s only one of her many chapters. Here’s advice from 101-year-old Betty Reid Soskin: the versions of you can change—and change again. Stay ready for what’s next. 🎥 Brief But Spectacular

Here’s an update on the incredible crane rescue from Reading last week! Listen to Glen talking about the emergency evacuation plan in more detail.
Full credit not only to Crane Driver Glen Edwards but also his lifting team, clicking into gear and understanding exactly what to do in an emergency. Just goes to show by having emergency processes in place, people will be saved. Even if those processes are used once every 30 years. A life saved is a life saved. 👏 Sir Robert McAlpine 👏

Rogue, unlicensed movers pose a significant threat to legitimate moving companies. 🚫 They undercut prices, tarnish industry reputation, and often lack insurance. To protect our industry and clients, let's advocate for stricter regulations and consumer awareness. 📦💼 #MovingIndustry #LicensedMovers #RegulationsMatter
