There’s only one thing CITC’s Recovery and Reentry peer support staff fight over: who gets to work with Southcentral Foundation’s detox group. “It’s become the most coveted group for the Peers,” said Sarah Chivers, a Peer Recovery supervisor who helped establish a new partnership with Southcentral Foundation (SCF), another of Cook Inlet Region Inc.’s socially driven organizations. Thanks to a new grant intended to help individuals going through withdrawal connect with peers who have that lived experience, CITC peer support specialists have been leading twice-weekly detox groups at SCF. The partnership allows the peers to build relationships with individuals who are just starting their recovery journey, creating a stronger link from detox, to assessment, to treatment. Director of Peer Recovery Services. State Opioid Response 3 Project Manager for Daviess County. Trauma-Informed Recovery Oriented System of Care Implementation Coordinator.
National Recovery Month (Recovery Month), which started in 1989, is a national observance held every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible. Recovery is for everyone because it benefits everyone. In recovery, we build new connections to ourselves, our families, and our communities. The Recovery Month tagline, “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community” reminds people in recovery and those who support them, that recovery belongs to all of us. We are all called to end gatekeeping and welcome everyone to recovery by lowering barriers to recovery support, creating inclusive spaces and programs, and broadening our understanding of what recovery means for people with different experiences. Having been the Director of Peer Recovery Services for (almost) 2 years, I have witnessed the positive reality of recovery. Individuals who embrace recovery achieve improved mental and physical health and form stronger relationships with their neighbors, family members, and peers. We need to make more people feel as though recovery is possible. Mental health and substance use disorders affect people of all ethnicities, ages, genders, geographic regions, and socioeconomic levels. They need to know that help is available. These individuals can get better, both physically and emotionally, with the support of a welcoming community. Families and communities can find hope and spread the message that recovery works by celebrating the annual #RecoveryMonth. Peer Recovery Services is celebrating Recovery Month by holding a variety of educational and entertaining events to honor individuals and families who are in recovery. We invite you to join us on September 9th, 2023, for Daviess’ 3rd Annual Recovery Month Celebration at Eastside Park. Your attendance will demonstrate the support of the recovery community, including those who provide prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. I urge all community members to join the celebration and help stem the incidence of mental health and substance use disorders. Let people know that free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day through SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or 1-800-487-4889 (TDD). Offering support to those experiencing mental health and substance use disorders can make a huge difference. Together we can help others realize the promise of recovery and give families the right support to help their loved ones. Recovery is Possible.

✨New blog!✨ *Filled with REAL quotes from REAL clients* As we navigate our journey to overcome addiction, having others by our side is more than just having company. It's about building a supportive community that keeps us accountable, lifts us up when we're feeling low, and cheers us on through the tough times. When someone reaches out to lend a hand, it sparks a fire inside us to keep pushing forward and stay committed to our recovery journey. It's amazing how this journey changes us, making us feel more confident and trusting in ourselves and in others. It's kind of ironic, isn't it? We need others to grow and thrive, yet opening up to them can be really scary. But with each step we take, we're breaking down those walls and letting people see the real us without the influence of substances. And that takes real bravery. By being vulnerable and letting others in, we're building genuine connections that allow people to love and accept us for who we truly are. And that's something truly special. 📞: 844-749-0777 🔗: Discover the strength that comes from having the right support system on your client's journey to recovery; read more here! ➡️ https://ow.ly/NNrc50R9yj4
