I might be a bit biased but it’s difficult to find a better scenario than Mercati di Traiano in Rome for two days of fruitful discussions and exchanges on the sustainable transition of the fashion industry. Phygital Sustainability EXPO by Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society 2024 featured a great parterre of high-level speakers from the Italian government, EU Institutions, international partners, journalists, universities, trade associations, and companies. Economic and social sustainability - indispensable elements alongside environmental sustainability -, the promotion of the creativity and excellence of the Made in Italy were key topics of discussion. Grateful for the productive exchanges with Italian stakeholders, who demonstrate a pragmatic approach and a willingness to achieve the shared objective of protecting both consumers and the environment through collective effort.

Made in Italy and sustainability. Two concepts that are the strength of Italian companies. Made in Italy is a unique added value from which both, small emerging companies and large consolidated companies in the fashion and luxury sector, can benefit greatly. Today on one hand, Made in Italy is faced with the need to protect and support Italian creativity in the world more carefully, on the other hand, it must embrace the increasingly important environmental and social issues. Whether it is a more controlled production chain or the valorisation of local labour, Italian fashion entrepreneurs are aware of the importance of ESG issues both for a sustainable and competitive long-term business and for a contemporary and genuine brand storytelling.

The statement “Counterfeiters are winning the battle. We need to seize their goods, sustainably destroy them, and repurpose the raw materials for new goods. Only then can we beat them" was emphasized by Daniel Reis Nobre, Managing Partner at Inventa, during the International Trademark Association (INTA): Stakeholder Dialogue: Brands in a Sustainable World, held on February 8th at the Sofitel Brussels Europe. This event provided a platform to discuss the pivotal role of brands in promoting positive environmental and social change. 🌟 Yesterday, June 19th, we had the pleasure of attending the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe event "Vision & Visibility: Scaling Transparency" at the Triennale Milano. 🌟 Three years after the launch of The Sustainability Pledge initiative, a project by UN/CEFACT jointly implemented with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and supported by the European Union, we spent the day sharing the results and learnings achieved since 2021. Discussions ranged from innovative solutions to accelerate circularity in production and consumption to the development of KPIs for measuring transparency levels and best practices for the industry's future. These three years have seen collective efforts in #research, #development, and #awareness, dedicated to demonstrating that #transparency, #traceability, #sustainability, and #circularity are indeed possible throughout the entire value chain. 🌱 Musthad, along with around 100 other brands, NGOs, initiatives, and industry associations, has embraced the call to action of The Sustainability Pledge, joining the movement and aligning with its common goals. 🗓 On March 18th, we completed the Monitoring Survey 2024 to track the implementation of the pledges received under UNECE’s call to action. The purpose of these reports is to use the aggregated analysis of the results to inspire policymakers, brands, and companies through good practices and lessons learned. Yesterday's event, focused on creating a more #accountable apparel and footwear sector, brought together key industry players, experts, policymakers, opinion leaders, and more. For us, it was particularly interesting to note that one of the major topics of the day was "From #Data to #Impact," highlighting the importance of data collection and digitalization in enabling circular supply chains and achieving virtuous transparency goals. We were also pleased to see the growing emphasis on product traceability throughout the entire supply chain, not only from origin to end consumer but also to the product's end-of-life. Because today's #waste can become tomorrow's #resources! ♻ 🚀 #circularity #sustainability #pledge #tracebility #transparency #goals #UNECE #Supplychain #musthad

🎉 Celebrating 50 Years of Cosmetics New Zealand 🎉 I attended the Cosmetics New Zealand Conference yesterday, and the line-up of speakers was nothing short of spectacular, offering a wealth of insights. Here are my key takeaways: 1️⃣ Global Population Dynamics: The world's demographic is shifting rapidly, and this will undeniably influence the retail landscape. Brands need to be agile and adaptive. 2️⃣ The Power of AI: While many of us interact with AI daily, the conference was a stark reminder of how much more we can harness its potential. It's not just about using it, but maximizing its capabilities. 3️⃣ A Trip Down Memory Lane: Reflecting on the past 50 years, it's fascinating to see the transformation of the cosmetics industry in NZ. What once seemed straightforward in marketing is now a multifaceted challenge, demanding innovation at every turn. 4️⃣ Global yet Local: The balance between global outreach and local relevance is delicate but essential. One feeds into the other, creating a symbiotic relationship for brands to thrive. 5️⃣ Setting the Bar with PCPC: It's commendable how the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) is pioneering standards, ensuring quality and consistency across the board. 6️⃣ Sustainability Concerns: The environmental impact of cosmetic waste is alarming. While innovations like sugarcane-based plastics sound promising, they come with their own set of challenges. However, seeing the government's relentless efforts to enhance recycling processes is heartening. 🌿🌟Here's to another 50 years of growth, innovation, and responsibility in the cosmetics industry of New Zealand! #CosmeticsNZ #cosmetics #beauty #sustainability #innovation

Alright LinkedIn 👋 I’m not usually one for grand announcements, but this one is worth a mention. I’ve just written a blog post about our new report, "Systemic Properties of Key Production and Consumption Areas," created in collaboration with the European Environment Agency for the Topic Centre on Sustainability Transitions. It explores how #Foresight and systems thinking can offer new insights into shaping EU environmental policy. Curious about new ways of looking at the future of environmental policy? This report shows that foresight isn’t about predicting the future, but about understanding how different systems interact to develop policies that won’t backfire. Take a look at the blog post below.
♻ “By visualising and assessing systemic properties, policymakers can better anticipate how changes in one part of a system might affect other areas. This foresight approach can support them to navigate the uncertainty and complexity of the future more effectively.” 4strat’s own Nike Sudikatis is highlighting this and other key learnings from an ongoing collaboration with the European Environment Agency in a new blog post: https://lnkd.in/dqKxmhWh 💡 In 2023, this collaboration has resulted in a report on “Systemic Properties of Key Production and Consumption Areas“ authored by Ullrich Lorenz, Nike Sudikatis, Javad Keypour and Jens Konrad who have been part of a team working together with the European Environment Agency in the EEA - European Topic Centres on Sustainable Transitions. 🔎 The report explores the systemic nature of production and consumption systems across sectors such as energy, food, mobility, and housing. Each thematic domain is analysed through the lens of systemic properties, using tools like causal loop diagrams (CLDs) to visualise and communicate complex interconnections to both the general public and policymakers. We hope you enjoy the read! #Foresight #EU #EnironmentalPolicy #SystemicChange #SustainableTransitions

No more fast fashion. That is the credo of Minna Halme, Professor of Sustainability Management at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. She is a thought leader in innovative business practices, with recognitions including serving on Finland's National Expert Panel for Sustainable Development and on the United Nations' Panel on Global Sustainability. Understand her POV: https://lnkd.in/ecW26dtj She promotes especially one way to encourage industries to change more quickly: regulation. In the European Union, for example, an updated set of directives now requires companies with more than 500 employees to report on a number of corporate responsibility factors, ranging from environmental impact to the treatment of employees. These rules won't just help inform consumers, investors and other stakeholders about a company's role in global challenges. They’ll also help assess investment risks – weighing whether a company is taking the actions necessary to be financially resilient in the long-term. Do you agree? #fashion #clothing #supplychain #sustainability #circularity #regulation #regulierung #investment #textile
