Have you ever felt that you want to do good, while gaming? I just read Gaming for Good by Jude Ower MBE and Mathias Gredal Nørvig. I knew about gamification in learning and how Minecraft Education version is used in some schools. I didn't know about the Peoples’ Climate Vote, and how micro surveys were used to target gamers. I have to admit I did not know much about Playing 4 the Planet either.  It is quite interesting how charity efforts in games can give a general uplift in spending. In-app purchases(IAPs) of a skin pack, like Call of Duty Endowment Warrior Pack, leads to more money for the game company, and more money for the military veterans. As pointed out in the book, there needs to be alignment between the charity cause and the games target audience. I like the examples towards the end of the book, what an existing game studio, with an existing IP can do to participate in the work towards sustainability and diversity. A studio can also do things like Foldit and use crowdsourcing to solve a real world problem, but the risk is much higher for a game studio to go down that road. I wonder if this book is a sign of a maturing game industry, where industry veterans, founders of successful game companies, have experience and economical resources to work for the greater good?

Game 34* is this cool brainchild from The Brain Tumour Charity, a campaign that threw gaming into the mix to shake up their fundraising landscape. My mission was to take the name 'Game 34' and come up with branding that screams gamers from every corner of the digital universe – PC, console, and streaming pros aged 18-45. The team gave me an open brief, urging me to push boundaries while keeping their bold red from the original charity branding. As part of the visual language I whipped up extra elements – think PC and gaming connectors – to inject excitement and identity into the campaign's visuals. These extras provided enough room for experimentation while maintaining a rock-solid aesthetic. *Why 34, you ask?
