Christine Rupp’s Post

Inspiring, highly political, international, together - this was #TDI24, the Day of Industry, which took place this week with more than 1,500 guests at the EUREF-Campus Berlin. "How can Germany as an industrial location be strengthened in times of increasing polarization?" was the central theme of the event. I had the privilege of representing IBM at a panel discussion on the future of #Europe in the face of multiple crises. We discussed which "lessons" from the technology sector can be applied to the defense sector. Here are my key take aways.  1. Embracing new #technologies: Driving innovation in the Defense sector through active usage of #AI and #cloudcomputing 2. Interdisciplinary #collaboration: Fostering close interdisciplinary collaboration between Policy Makers, the Defense Industry, Integrators and Software Players to pursue a "software-defined defense approach. This will accelerate development cycles - just as we have seen very successfully with "softward-defined vehicle" use cases in the Automotive industry 3. #Cybersecurity skills: In 2023 70% of all Cyber attacks targeted critical infrastructure. 32% of all attacks took place in Europe. Hence #Cybersecurity skills are no longer optional, but mandatory in the world we live in - this applies to both the Defense and Commercial sectors. 4. #speed, #speed, #speed: Significant increase in speed and agility is required I must say I was very touched by Claudia Major's closing statement "Freedom and peace are priceless". This is reason enough for a strong cooperation within all players of our society. Many thanks go to Isabelle Körner, ntvNachrichten for the moderation as well as to my fellow panelists Siegfried Russwurm, BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. President; Claudia Major, Head of Research Division International Security at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP); and Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG. #GenAI #Cloud #ProudIBMer   Photo credits: BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V./Christian Kruppa and Jana Legler
