$26 Million Dollars?! That is the amount MET GALA raised this year. Everyone is eating MET Gala looks but what is it and how much does it cost to get in? It is the biggest fundraising event held by the Metropolitan Museum for their costume institute and the raised money is used to restore the historical art, renovate and facilitate development. These are some MET GALA facts that will blow your mind: —> MET Museum is home to a collection of 33,000+ pieces of clothing, jewellery and accessories that documents fashion which are as old as 1400s. —> Every year the gala is funded by big names like Apple and Instagram and this year TikTok and Loewe were the sponsors —> The cost of just one ticket is $75,000 Dollars and the dinner table for 10 cost starts around $350,000. And interestingly what happens inside the Gala is a big secret! The guest are not even allowed to carry their phones inside the museum. Despite the "No Selfie Rule" celebrities like Billie Eilish and Kylie Jenner have started the tradition of taking an annual selfie in the Met Bathroom. Justice takes place everywhere, not just in the courts. After undergoing a subtle yet highly meaningful name change, the Center for Justice Innovation (formerly known as the Center for Court Innovation), approached us to expand their Visual Brand Identity to match their broad spectrum of areas of focus and action. The original VBI, also done by Bardo, was a comprehensive design system based on the word structure of the logotype, including a generative logic to create sub-brands on demand for the Center's ever-growing portfolio of programs and partners, where each would have its own color. We decided to keep the binary color logic of the previous VBI and design program, expanding the sets of color pairs to reflect the Center's vibrant and diverse nature. The challenge was that color pairs would have to be accessible (high contrast ratio), and the main brand (CJI) had to remain distinctively independent from the sub-programs. The result is a more dynamic and flexible representation of the Center itself and the many faces of Justice, and offers the CJI team a bigger and richer set of tools, multiplying the possibilities of application. A domestic violence art exhibition? Derrick, why are you wasting your time with artists? I hear that feedback sometimes when I meet with investors and donors. My nonprofit, Duplessy Foundation, has helped women + minority founders generate $10M+ in the last 2 years. Three of our founders have generated $2M+ in 2023. It would be easy for me to focus on the bigger businesses. The problem is money isn’t my sole focus. When I met Anne Plaisance in 2019, she had the ‘artiste’ starter kit. Black turtleneck (✅) Black leather portfolio (✅) French (✅) Her project Wonder Women Now was a photography book that highlighted survivors of domestic violence. Heroic poses were accentuated with masks that transformed their identity from victim to empowered. Over the next year, I worked with Anne to expand this project to cities around the world. Then she disappeared - for 2 weeks Anne resurfaced in a new home and hidden story. Anne herself was a survivor of domestic violence. Over the next year, I coached her through a new version of Wonder Women Now. It’s an interactive walk through a home in a wealthy suburb Each room is scattered with everyday objects and art Each room conveys a sequence of emotions for survivors of domestic violence Audio of the emotional ride from a mother and her child bring the rooms to life Oct 19, Anne is having an opening night of the exhibition in Cambridge.
