This week we kick-off Earth Month at Calix with a variety of activities that underscore our commitment to protect the environment and help strengthen communities.
Employees can join an Earth Month Challenge, earning points by engaging in eco-friendly activities, with prizes for the winners. These include walking to reduce carbon emissions from transportation, eating plant-based meals, attending local Earth-month events, planting trees, picking up trash and more. This initiative is being organized by the Sustainability at Calix affinity group, which is also hosting two events to discuss sustainability and how to make a difference.
In addition, employee meetup groups are volunteering for Earth Month efforts in their communities. In the Bay Area employees will partner with Friends of Petaluma River to do a river cleanup on April 18th, while Tampa employees will clean up the Riverwalk on April 19th.
These efforts support our broader sustainability strategy, which is focused on five pillars:
1. Technology Innovation: This includes improving product durability, efficiency, and recyclability, now and in the future. These efforts help broadband service providers, and their subscribers reduce their power consumption, carbon footprint and energy costs.
2. Culture and Social Impact: We are committed to building an inclusive, Great Place to Work that engages all employees, supports volunteerism and communities. This includes extending our community to the industry and sharing best practices with customers and partners to help them build and sustain great places to work too.
3. Sustainable Supply Chain: This includes strengthening the resiliency and diversity of our supply chain, reducing our carbon footprint, and improving the use of recyclable materials.
4. Sustainable Enterprise: Through a variety of projects, we are reducing our energy use, including consolidating our research and development labs into the Calix Virtual Innovation Lab, allowing our team to work remotely, using EV transportation at our Bengaluru (Bangalore) facility, and reducing our facilities footprint.
5. Sustainable Partnership: Creating lasting change in rural communities. High quality broadband services deliver economic development, better education, health care and public safety services, and strengthen social and civic engagement.
Working with our customers we are living our shared purpose – making a difference in the lives of the people and communities they serve every day.
