Was reminded by my manager yesterday about the importance of asking "why". I was looking through some things in our backlog and started to work on a ticket. I wanted to run something by him and when I explained the situation he was like..."but why do they want to do this?"... and I didn't have an answer. Sometimes the work we're asked to do makes perfect sense, but it's a reminder for those other times to not just follow blindly and try to find out why something is happening or needed. What's the next project? Instead of starting an entirely new project, I plan to revisit a previous one and refactor it. I'm currently reviewing one of the initial projects in my portfolio, and since then, I've learned more efficient techniques. I understand that no application is ever truly 100% complete in the software development lifecycle. However, during a code review of a particular project, I've identified areas for improvement based on the knowledge I've gained since then. Together, we've crafted a state-of-the-art tool for claims automation and underwriting journey design. Dive into the story behind it. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 We’ve composed a team of backend and frontend engineers, a QA specialist, a project manager, and a solution architect, and conducted a discovery phase to align the product's functionality with insurance providers' expectations and achieved 3 pivotal milestones: ⭐ Crafted a proof of concept. ⭐ Developed a functional MVP. ⭐ Elevated the MVP to a fully-fledged platform. A construction kit we’ve created allowed seamless claim flow composition. It included both – basic elements like text areas, bullets, buttons, attach features, checkboxes, and more complex functionalities that allow for deeper personalization: → Automated customer data import → Map pinning functionality → Insurance calculators → Website creation wizard The product employed a 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤: Python, Django, DRF, Postgres, Redis, JS, React, TypeScript, Firestore, Docker, AWS suite, and more. The entire journey, from ideation to execution, was a testament to the synergy between our team and the client. My thoughts of the day 💡: Platform Engineers with IT backgrounds should spend more time chatting with their end users to build the Internal Developer Platform that makes sense for them.
