Happy New Month Everyone. It is a new day and a new month of this year that will never come again. So surprising how time flies. Reminiscing, we can all remember celebrating New Year not long, like it was yesterday. Now it is June. The first half of year 2024 is coming to an end. I hope and pray that all our prayers and expectations will be met in this new month. Today, I implore you to take a short period of time out of your busy schedule to brood. Think of the past months and be grateful for both the little achievements and bourgeois ones. Remember being grateful is the access to more blessings and opportunities. Also do not forget to gauge yourself. Ask yourself thought provoking questions like; - How well have I developed myself within these past months? - What have I learnt that will sharpen my understanding? - How have I made impact on others etc. Ask yourself these questions. They are yardsticks you will use to measure yourself and know your prowess. Remember, Time Waits For No One. Once again, Happy New Month. Ngozi ✍️✍️.

“Wow, you really stepped out of your comfort zone!” – said by a former colleague I hadn’t seen in 18-months. It didn’t seem so scary when I said ‘yes!’ to the new job a year ago, but once I was in it, it was really, really hard. The work was exciting, and the team was filled with smart, talented, fun-to-work-with-people. So, why was it so hard? For the first time in a long time, I didn’t know the answers right away, or which contributions would add value in meetings, or even who to call when I needed to phone a friend for help. I call these times in my career “seasons” – those growth periods that bring big change as well as improvements month-over-month until one day – you know who to call for help and/or past expertise collides with new expertise in a way that you can take the work to the NEXT LEVEL. 🚀 Today I'm celebrating my 1-year anniversary (🍾) and sharing a few personal lessons from this season. 💫 Invest in your network – regardless of where you are in your career, these authentic connections will carry you through. 💫 Learn when it’s time to say ‘yes’ to your next role – to know me, is to know that I LOVED my previous role, but the reality is, I should have stepped out of my comfort zone sooner. 💫 Recognize that the journey will take time – much like the hike in the photo, the path out of the canyon had a lot of ups and downs, switchbacks, and rocky terrain. 🫠 Breaking the climb down into manageable distances, assessing the terrain in the next section, and taking rest breaks led to the overall goal. Thanks for joining me on this journey. 🫶It turned out even better than I hoped it would – and that’s pretty awesome.

You’re missing out on the support you deserve because you’re searching for support you’ll never get 🙅🏽♀️ As we celebrate our one year anniversary, I am reminded of just how amazing my husband is. He attends ALL of my presentations and performances, encourages me when I’m feeling down, pushes me to do better when I’m being lazy, and he always has my back. Before him, I looked to my job for that support. While sometimes it worked out, way too often was I left hurt and disappointed. You know why? Because I wasn’t letting my job just be my job. I was trying to get it to fill a role in my life that my contract never stipulated. Double check your contract… unless you see it explicitly stated that your job will support and fulfill you, stop expecting that. Sis… it’s ok to take a step back and find your support and fulfillment outside of your job. It doesn’t mean you can’t still operate in excellence, it just means that you’re actively choosing to live a life that is not dictated by how your day at work went. It’s time for you to start thriving, not just surviving. Forever thankful for the individuals placed in my life. In 2014 I met Evelyn Forde MBE through Future Leaders as we both shared the ambition to step into Headship. Now in 2023, as I reflect on how far we have both come and the things we have been able to achieve from very challenging starting points, it makes me feel incredibly thankful and even more hopeful for the future. My reminders and encouragement for others; 1. Problems and obstacles will arise but that should never kill your dreams. Draw all the learning you can from it and consider how you can use it to galvanise a newness of strength and empower future decisions 2. There will always be someone ready to champion you. Never feel that you are alone. Reach out for support. 3. Network, network, network. Stay connected with likeminded individuals as they will advocate for you and open doors that you never thought would be possible 4. Never stay where you are just tolerated, go where you are celebrated and appreciated. You have the power to change your environment. 5. Don’t allow others to devalue your knowledge and skills. Know your value and worth. Give yourself permission to build your own empire and the right people will be drawn to you. 6. Treat yourself and others with great care. We all have a story and we all have a purpose. Supporting others to become the best version of themselves is a wonderful gift. Fill your cup and take great joy with pouring into others. 7. The world is a very big place. If you haven’t found your ‘angels’ or guidance alliance, be sure to know they are out there. Don’t loose hope.

This post got me thinking about the expression, “Go the extra mile.” It’s almost always used to describe going above the standard for quality of work… …if you borrow someone’s car, fill up the tank or wash it. …if you clean your house, even clean under the couch. …if you are reaching out to a customer to ‘check on them,’ share some valuable content. The phrase comes from something Jesus said…“if someone compels you to go one mile, go with them two.” It’s right in a mix of advice in dealing with injustices and mistreatments. Yup, it’s the same speech where we learn to turn the other cheek. And then there it is, Jesus coining the idea to go the extra mile. But, it’s not about INDIVIDUAL work ethic. It’s about how we TREAT OTHERS, even those who would mistreat us. It’s about leading people. It’s about showing people the way by going alongside them, not just pointing to where they should go. When considering the original meaning of going the extra mile it’s especially potent because it’s not just for the people we like or get along with. It’s even for people who are in opposition to us. Hmmm, Isn’t that where we sit whenever we begin to lead someone? At the beginning, everyone is in opposition UNTIL we walk alongside them, showing them the way, going the extra mile WITH THEM! The greatest leaders I’ve ever worked for or worked with are leaders who walk with you, and to quote my friend, Jeff Miller “pull you along with them.” #gotheextramile #empoweringkindness #bekind #leadwithkindness
