If I had a nickel for every time someone stopped me from wasting a lot of resource time... because I thought up a grand plan but got it wrong... because I did not understand the specifics... I could have already retired. To that point, do you ask to be guided by your team and then do you listen and follow? In the end the leader is there to drive success and not just define the plan or “how to”. It is not about success via YOUR plan it is about SUCCESS for your company, team and industry. To that point, if you have created a team or are on a team where you are the only one capable of generating “the best plan” then you need a new team. There is a quote on that, something like “If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room.” - (thought to be from a former GE CEO Jack Welch but the origin is debated) lead ->get feedback -> adjust -> lead
Absolutely. The ability to pivot based on team input is where success lies. And to your point, you need a team willing to provide that input.
These are such good insights on how we can lead teams better, Thankyou Chris Vitale for sharing this out🙂

2wThanks for sharing, Chris! Your quote, “If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room,” reminds me of another saying: "Don't try to be right, try to do the right things." What really stands out in your post are two key leadership traits - humility and empowerment. Leaders need to rely on their teams to stay grounded and identify their blind spots.
