Last nights launch event for Dubai Young Professionals | YP Club in Abu Dhabi was 👌🏼 🧍110+ attendees. 💭 32 individual and meaningful conversations. 💰 Some will be new clients, others will be new candidates. 🥁 Networking works. You’ll all be familiar with #davidgoggins - I’ve alertly referenced him a lot on my socials. He’s an advocate of (amongst other amazing topics) of challenging yourself and embrace open mindedness. To do something hard, or to do something that you don’t want to do. Suggesting that such practices lead to productivity increases. Not one but three separate people said to me in the run up - you’re travelling to #abudhabi to attend a networking event - you must be mad. (For those that don’t know it’s a 90 min journey each way by car). For the additions to my “little black book” it was worth it 😉 My story is not nearly the same practice as breaking the pull up record as David Goggins so famously did but defying the norm (he’s done way more than this by the way ( #iykyk ) and challenging what couldn’t be done. Let’s be honest, it was a networking event in a neighbouring city, hardly groundbreaking. However, after a busy day (my first meeting yesterday was at 8am and I reached home at 12:40am) the easiest thing would have been to head home, eat, Netflix and sleep. BUT stepping outside your comfort zone and ultimately getting yourself doing something you wouldn’t usually - all aids to growth and open mindedness, you’ll do better business too. North Star Conference 2024 was a success! It's not often that you get to see marketing and comms conferences in Abuja to attend, so huge thanks to Damilola Robert for putting this together! I had the opportunity to network with talented professionals in the field and made some valuable connections. I was fully engaged as the speakers shared their expertise. Major global conferences can be intimidating and even overwhelming (but also very productive and enjoyable). Some tactics I've employed and consider effective are: 1. Embrace quality over quantity, I enjoy meaningful conversations vs. a huge stack of business cards and follow-up on anything I committed to; 2. Define event metrics in advance and measure these quickly after the event; 3. Plan meetings and prepare for these in advance while leaving some space for spontaneity; Bonus item: Enjoy the location you're in and people as much as possible, there's a reason these are not virtual 😉 Any important points, would love to hear from you.
