Managing Director and Head of Health Assurance, General Catalyst

Whilst there has been a lot of focus on the impact of AI on administrative use cases within healthcare, we believe that AI should play a critical role in care delivery. Sword Health combines human clinicians with AI, working side by side to provide a significantly better patient experience, higher quality, and more cost-effective care delivery. AI applied to healthcare with real results, real impact, and real scale with over 3 million AI sessions delivered to date. #healthassurance #digitalhealth #healthtech

Founder and CEO of Sword // Pioneering how we treat patients with AI and freeing 2 billion people from pain in the process.

In the last 20 years, we’ve seen technology and innovation drive costs down and increase access across many different industries, from electronics to automotive. In healthcare, though, we've seen the same penetration of technology but with the opposite effect. Healthcare is now significantly more expensive than it was 20 years ago, and inequity is increasing. While in other industries, we’ve successfully used technology to shift the workload from humans to machines, in healthcare, we’ve been using technology to make the work of human clinicians slightly better but much more expensive. We believe that the future of healthcare, and particularly how we deliver care will come down to our ability to shift the workload from clinical teams to AI. By doing so, we can remove barriers to access, drive costs down, and elevate the role of the human clinician so that they can focus on the human touch and the holistic needs of their patients. This is our vision for Sword, and that’s why today I’m very proud to unveil Phoenix, the world’s first AI Care Specialist. Phoenix represents the culmination of 10 years of relentless innovation on our path to make world-class healthcare as accessible as running water. Since pioneering the novel concept of AI Care during my PhD over a decade ago, we’ve been tirelessly working on its evolution through many different iterations. Now, the launch of Phoenix represents the largest leap forward of our model to date, and we’re very excited about the impact it will have on how the world accesses and receives care. With more than three million AI sessions delivered to date, we’ve proven that our AI Care model can deliver on our initial vision of using AI to make high-quality care readily available, removing barriers to access while cutting millions of dollars in healthcare waste for our clients. Phoenix will allow us to accelerate our ability to deliver on this vision even further and expand into other conditions where care delivery is still a 100% labor-intensive job with massive barriers to access and high costs. Please check out Phoenix and what she’s capable of in the video below. Still only 5% done.
