We are excited to share our new series: “JPSM ground-breaking articles”. In this series, we ask past editors and current associate editors to share their JPSM ground-breaking articles with us.
In the first edition, we have Robert Suurmond’s pick for JPSM’s ground-breaking article. He elected Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner and René Kemmerling's “Supply Chain Management Executives in Corporate Upper Echelons.”
Robert advocates for more SCM leadership, especially in the complexity of today’s world:
“In the 2010s, purchasing has taken on an increasingly strategic function, accompanied by a movement toward more "supply chain management" as an overarching concept. One of the first articles to describe how this translates to a top management team is Wagner and Kemmerling (2014) – to my knowledge, not only within our PSM literature but also outside of it. After that, the literature has focused on the effect of these SCM executives on organizational performance. But there is more, somewhat ignored until now, to be said about the individual roles and tasks of SCM leaders. In the current era of global transitions, disruptions, and climate change, SCM leadership is needed more than ever.”
The link to the article is provided in the first comment.
