Safety First: The Challenge of Working on Cranes in Difficult Weather Today at my job site, atop a crane, I faced a frequent reality for crane operators: strong winds. The anemometer on the crane's arm indicated wind speeds of 20 m/s, far exceeding safe working limits at height. Such conditions remind us of the importance of following safety protocols and risk assessment. Operating a crane isn't just about technical skill; it involves responsibility and awareness of hazards. Safety in high-altitude work is always the priority. In adverse weather, pausing work is the only right decision. This often makes it challenging for projects, as most tasks can't proceed without the crane. However, waiting out the weather is essential to continue safely. 💪 We love a challenge! Check out how we partnered with R.F. Knox Company, Inc. and Turner Construction Company to tackle this complex rigging project. Project Overview: Moving nine 12,000 lb, 20 ft long air handling units into a facility with limited access. Project Requirements: 1️⃣ No Anchorage or Drilling: The facility's post-tension structure required us to think outside the box for precise handling. 2️⃣ Second-Floor Placement: The weight of the units meant a forklift wasn't an option. We had to come up with a different approach. 3️⃣ Limited Headroom: With minimal clearance above the gantry, we needed to carefully stack the units once inside.
