Bon voyage, Kate! 👋🏻 Luckily for us, the amazingly talented Kate Allen isn't leaving Organic permanently today. But we are losing her for a bit, as tomorrow she begins an 8 week sabbatical - doing all manner of good things in Africa. Offering sabbatical leave comes with challenges for a business. There’s operational disruption, a loss of expertise, an impact on the workload of others in the team, a potential financial cost, and, of course, the risk that the person taking the sabbatical might never return… 😳 But in reality, most of these risks can be mitigated with careful planning, clear policies and open communication. Plus I’d argue that the risks are outweighed by some hefty gains that come from offering a sabbatical leave policy: 💡 It’s good for employee well-being 💡 It brings fresh ideas and perspectives into the business 💡 It helps attract the brightest and the best (it says all the right things about your business to potential candidates) 💡 And it helps retain the brightest and the best too (providing options to those who might otherwise feel compelled to leave your company for good) Have an amazing time away, Kate - we can’t wait to see the photos!

Have you considered a sabbatical? We believe that those in academic positions are the only ones who can benefit from this, however, those in non-academic positions should also consider this option. A sabbatical will allow you to: -disconnect from the tasks and environment where you have been immersed for many years. A new environment may offer much more than what we may expect. -reconsider your priorities. We sometimes believe that there is nothing beyond what we do when we do not give ourselves time to reflect on what and how we do things. -connect with those you care about but, you have not been in touch with. -recharge your batteries. While a holiday may do the trick, we sometimes need more time to really put ourselves together. Companies offering this option to their employees may see significant changes when they welcome back those who took the sabbatical. #sabbatical #strategy #consulting
