I attended a roundtable put on by the IGDA Climate SIG - on building a climate resilient games industry! 🌎 It was amazing, with lots of insights and engaging conversation, but the elephant in the room was that the room was... sparse. Not nearly enough people showed up to engage in this topic 🥲 An additional talk today about concrete climate action: Cancelled. How do we build a climate resilient games industry with only ~20 voices out of all of GDC? Thank you to everyone I met, with all your amazing insights! What a small but mighty group 💪🏼 For those looking to engage with this topic outside of this roundtable, be sure to check out the IGDA Climate SIG, and talk to your fellow gamers and game devs about what role you can play in the climate movement! Thanks to those tagged in the photo below, as well as Arnaud Fayolle, Odile Limpach, Sabrina Fedele, Karl-Heinz Gilbert-Wason (apparently you can't add photo tags after posting! 😅)
And here's an direct invite to the IGDA Climate SIG discord, to connect with ~1500 game devs and researchers passionate about tackling the climate crisis : https://discord.com/invite/aR4KjRmf
It didn't help that the roundtable started at 9am, when most GDCgoers were probably still recovering from their Tuesday night mixers. Thank you again for coming! 3moI’m so glad you made it to the roundtable! I wasn’t at GDC this year, so I hope to meet you online through the Climate SIG. I am currently leading the group’s climate council initiative, which supports eco-conscious game developers in taking climate action at their studios.
