New findings released today from California’s ACE’s Aware initiative! In 40 clinics from 7 regions throughout the state, the start and spread of ACE screening was strongly correlated with clinics’ progress becoming trauma-informed. Every clinic made progress in both domains, but those that became more trauma-informed screened significantly more patients for ACEs. This supports the longstanding ethos that trauma inquiry is best accomplished in trauma-informed environments of care. The ACEs Aware initiative, to me, has also been one of the, if not the single, most effective catalysts of trauma-informed systems change.
