War Child is important to me because it reaches around the world to the worst, most war-torn areas to help children affected by conflict. World Vision is the charity I have been supporting the longest (21 uninterrupted years) and also helps children all over the world and has one of the best ratings for how much of funds raised actually goes to good works. Always amazes me about what moves a person to this kind of purpose and action.
"𝙄'𝙫𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝘼 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙕𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙨" 91-year-old Sam Sloan has been working and saving money since he was 20, but after retiring he began giving it away. Sam settled on helping his local Fire Department in Calhoun, MO – a facility that had a Fire Chief, few volunteers and no working equipment. They were struggling on a $4,800 annual budget, relying on donated equipment from other departments, and even covering costs themselves. But when Sam Sloan gave Chief Hardin a check for $500,000, it meant that they could buy new trucks and uniforms. The firefighters presented Sloan with his very own firefighter helmet that says "Honorary Fire Chief’, and when the new gear arrives, they’ll celebrate together with a barbecue.
