Tomorrow morning you can join me at the APCDA Conference where I will present the findings of our great research with Dr. Brian Hutchison aka Global Career Guy ~ PhD, LPC, CCCE and Nour Alhiyari ~ PhD, PLPC. We looked into how the skill-based approach is affecting career guidance, and how we can leverage technology to make the processes easier for both the job seekers and the counselors. For those that are interested and cannot join, make sure to check the post-conference publication to learn more. Until then, let me leave you with one my favourite quotes from the interviews we did with counselors that use the SkillLab tool in their work: "People can explore and build their profile according to what they want to show without the need of a third person. I am talking about concepts like self-concept, self-esteem, and self-confidence that are connected to what you have accomplished." See you tomorrow!
📢 SkillLab is presenting at the 2024 APCDA Hybrid Conference in India! Our market research specialist Arijana Radic will present together with Dr. Brian Hutchison aka Global Career Guy ~ PhD, LPC, CCCE and Nour Alhiyari ~ PhD, PLPC the impact of the skill-based approach on career guidance practice, and how the skill-based technology can best support both the job seekers and the counselors in their efforts. Let us know if you are joining, and if you are unable to do so, keep an eye out for the post-conference report where we will present our interesting findings!

As we usher in 2024, let's take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of The Region Three Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) in 2023. It was a year marked by significant strides in economic development and community engagement, starting with our contribution to the national budget, advocating for growth-focused policies. This set the tone for a year of proactive involvement and impactful initiatives. Key highlights included our pivotal meeting with Dr. Natasha Gaskin-Peters and the Centre for Local Business Development, unlocking new opportunities in the Oil & Gas sector. We also engaged in meaningful dialogues with the Regional Democratic Council and the Guyana Police Force, bolstering regional security and creating a conducive environment for private sector growth. Our participation as observers in the Local Government Elections 2023 underscored our commitment to governance and democratic processes. Additionally, our efforts in hosting ISO certification training and our proactive outreach during Agriculture Month, particularly the significant joint ventures announced by R3CCI members, APSOL and Latitude Geospatial, have set a new benchmark for our region's growth. The year culminated with a successful job fair and a sold-out Annual Holiday Mixer, both of which fostered jobs and new business opportunities and further strengthened our community network. As we step into 2024 with renewed vigor, R3CCI is excited to unveil a calendar filled with even more engaging and beneficial activities for our members. Join us as we continue to forge paths for prosperity in Region 3! #R3CCI #YearInReview #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #Region3 #Guyana #BusinessGrowth #NetworkingSuccess 🚀🌐🤝

Pharmacist with pharmacy law, clinical pharmacy, pharmacogenomics, and sports pharmacy specialized advanced training. Member of the health care team.
"Giving Something Back" This is the tagline of the Fort Gay High School Alumni Association. This past Friday, I had the privilege of volunteering at the Joe Damron Memorial Golf Tournament, which supports the scholarships that the FGHS Alumni Association awards to graduates of the local high school each year. As I was riding in the golf cart with my dad, the golf tournament chair, around the course, I started to think about the tag line. For the golfers, their entry fees were allowing them to help the association give something back to the community and help students achieve their dreams. But, what about me-what am I giving back to make this a better place? As a pharmacist, there are lots of ways that we can give back. This is a quick list of some that I’ve done over the past 15 years: · Precept a pharmacy student · Speak at a career fair (we have to retire sometime!) · Speak to a group of senior citizens about medications · Serve on a local health committee · Serve on a committee at your alma mater · Volunteer with your state or national pharmacy organization · And so many more! If you haven’t been giving something back, take the last few months of the year to find a way to volunteer to promote and advance the profession of pharmacy. If anyone else has any other interesting volunteer/”give back” opportunities that you’ve done in the past, please share in the comments. Remember---You get out what you put in. Make it a great day!

Last Thursday & Friday, we organized the 4th edition of be POM, the annual Belgian Photonic Online Meetup. Three and an half year ago, sitting in my garden, during the pandemic and inspired by the international POM, I thought: "we don't have anything in Belgium where people doing photonics can meet, speak about their research, start collaborating at the national level". Sébastien Mouchet, Gilles Rosolen and Karin Derochette were as crazy as I was and bePOM was born. Not knowing if it will work, if people will follow us. This year, for the 4th edition, bePOM is mature with 4 scientific sessions over 2 days, with an hybrid approach, 23 scientific talks, an online poster session, a R&D session, a job fair, a paper discussion, workshops more career oriented, networking activities such as a restaurant or a laser game! We reached 150 people registered! It was my last year as a coordinator, but I'm really proud of the work that this incredible team did to set up this conference. As a speaker said "I like how bePOM is reinventing the concept of conferences". Last but not least, as this 4th edition was closing at the restaurant, everybody was already speaking about what to do next year, how to improve etc. It might be a detail, but for me, it means a lot. be POM is here to stay in the Belgian landscape.
