The UK Gambling Commission has announced new rules targeting key areas in the gambling sector, including financial risk checks, direct marketing, online games design, and age verification for land-based venues. Rolling out between August 2024 and February 2025, the regulations feature phased affordability checks, starting at £500 and reducing to £150 until February 2025. A pilot for frictionless checks will leverage existing player data for six months, with smaller operators invited to participate. Industry response has been positive, particularly regarding affordability checks. Changes to age verification for land-based venues and online games design aim to enhance consumer protection. While stakeholders appreciate the Commission's transparent approach, concerns linger about ensuring all players experience smooth checks and the regulations' effectiveness in promoting responsible gambling behavior. Overall, these regulations represent a significant stride toward safeguarding consumers while maintaining a thriving gambling industry. Following the latest Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary session, Turkey and Jamaica have been removed from the so-called “Grey List”, recognising the respective government’s efforts taken for an effective prevention of money laundering and terrorism funding. On the other hand, Monaco and Venezuela have been added to the grey list, while the countries on the FATF “Black List”, Iran, North Korea and Myanmar hold their position. The FATF grey-listing comes with negative consequences for international business relations for the respective countries and follows an thorough investigation by FATF officials, for regulatory structures as well as operational oversight measures, in the country in question. 🔗 Links to the official #GreyList and #BlackList on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) website ➡ https://lnkd.in/dHNyWGr7 and https://lnkd.in/d-dZRyXD Keen to hear more about AML/CFT in multi-jurisdictional regulated environments and how to keep your business clear from being abused by third parties with ill intentions?
