🌿 Exciting News! The UK is launching its very first Low-Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship, paving the way for a greener future. 🌍 This ground-breaking program will train a new generation of experts to support the UK's goal of installing 600,000 heat pumps annually by 2028, as we move away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy. With a target of 57,000 qualified heat pump installers by the end of the decade, this apprenticeship is a game-changer. Developed in collaboration with MCS, IfATE, and heat pump installers, it's the UK's first dedicated training program for low-carbon heating technologies. Plus, it's received special recognition as one of the six green apprenticeships chosen to mark King Charles III's Coronation. 👑 The Department for Education has allocated significant funding, up to £22,000 per apprentice, making it an attractive choice for those wanting to pursue careers in renewables. This funding surpasses that of equivalent fossil fuel heating programs. This initiative isn't just about training; it's about empowering a workforce that can guide homeowners towards greener, more sustainable heating options. It's about shaping future-proof careers in the green sector and accelerating our journey to Net Zero. Australian Renewables Academy (ARA) is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a government funding contract by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. This funding is set to establish and deliver the innovative New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program from 15 April 2024. The New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program is designed to support the clean energy sector. This Australian Government initiative aims to maximise retention and completion rates of Australian apprenticeships in Clean Energy Occupations by connecting apprentices to skilled workers and businesses in the clean energy industry. "We are excited to launch the New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program. It will create substantial opportunities for apprentices and the clean energy sector in Australia," said Bernadette O’Connor, CEO of Australian Renewables Academy. "This program aligns perfectly with our mission to transform the Australian workforce for the new energy revolution." The government funding will enable a range of services under the Program, including peer support, networking events, and other clean-energy-industry-based activities. This strategic investment highlights the government's commitment to building a strong workforce for the growing Clean Energy sector. The Australian Renewables Academy will work closely with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to deliver the New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program to a consistently high professional standard. "We will ensure New Energy apprentices develop useful industry connections and build career pathways within the New Energy sector," Bernadette O’Connor added. Group Horizon’s Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Controls Engineer Apprenticeship is run in partnership with the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) and has been designed to address the well-documented industry shortage of BEMS controls engineers and bring through a new generation of highly skilled operatives. Peter Behan, Director at Group Horizon, said: “With new efficient building technologies emerging on a regular basis, energy management systems and solutions are no longer viewed as expensive extravagances but are essential long-term investments which help drive down costs and improve the wellbeing of building occupants. A new generation of skilled engineers is needed more than ever before and there is now fresh impetus to deliver the necessary training and ensure we have the talented individuals needed to deliver the buildings of tomorrow.” Discover more about the in-demand apprenticeship here: https://lnkd.in/dkAQwmk

The MCS Foundation has declared that #GreenApprenticeships could be critical for the UK’s net zero transition, but these must be promoted better to Gen Z. The charity highlighted that a “huge influx” of 15 to 25-year-olds are required to enter the green workforce to meet various renewable installation targets set for the 2030s. According to data from hiring platform Indeed from early this year, there’s been a 315% increase in the demand for #SolarInstallers over the last three years. Richard Hauxwell-Baldwin, at the MCS Foundation, said: “For young people who want to do their bit for the environment but don’t see a ‘green job’ as an option, apprenticeships could open doors in a big way. We will need more than a hundred thousand more solar panel and heat pump installers in the next decade, and apprenticeships are a vital link in to accessing the skills and capabilities of Gen Z to meet that need. We need to move beyond a system where university is seen as the only path for aspirational school leavers and demonstrate that apprenticeships can provide job and learning opportunities for young people that are enjoyable, earn good money, and deliver on their environmental values.” 🔎 Read the full article 👉🏻https://lnkd.in/eBXYYGrs #GreenJobs #SolarEnergy #NetZero #Apprenticeships MCS Solar Energy UK

I'm in complete agreement with Mark Krull. Whilst in a transition stage across the Heating Industry, there is still a requirement for good all round heating engineers and will be for some time, espeically whilst gas boilers are continuing to be sold and installed which isnt going to stop for a little while just yet. There will then be the legacy that this all brings even at the point that Heat Pump installations take over from Gas Boilers. The up-skilling and cross skilling into Renewables should be the push and focus as opposed to as Mark rightly stated, a limiting Low Carbon apprenticeship. What are everyone elses thoughts..? https://lnkd.in/e4Z-hAct #lowcarbon #netzero #decarbonisation #heatpumps #gasboilers #heating #gasengineers #renewableengineers #apprenticeships #training #discussion #hvac

Finally some good news regarding the options for training and development in our sector. The launch of a full apprenticeship programme aimed at Low Carbon Heating technicians is a massive step change, and hopefully the first green shoots of some quality, official vocational training to attract new talent into our industry. Although the headlines are filled with hyperbole about the growth of renewables, the vast skills gap etc, there has been little to no quality route into this side of the industry without relying on (often terrible) short courses, and a route through the fossil fuels first. We look forward to recruiting our first intake of people onto the new apprenticeship when it becomes available! https://lnkd.in/eKFKJ79R
