A summary of my recent research on vocational education and training (VET). In a nutshell, we find that VET can greatly promote student achievement levels (upper secondary graduation rates). While all students can benefit, students from lower socio-economic background or previous low academic achievement can benefit even more. The labour market also appears to reward VET skills, with more jobs, higher salaries and better working conditions compared to graduates from the academic stream. NEW OPINION PIECE: "Is vocational education and training an option to increase education and employment?" By João Ferreira and Pedro Martins, both of Nova School of Business and Economics "With its practical approach and focus on specific occupations, VET can emerge as a compelling option for students at risk." I wish I could romanticise teaching as a career. But it is not glamorous or the most well-paying. It is sheer hard work - getting up every day, in rains and winters, showing up, opening yourself to scrutiny and questions from students. Preparing lessons, checking assignments, and thinking about student progress. There is always so much to do. And yet, teaching is satisfying for so many teachers. It allows them the space to be themselves, goofy, reflective, kind, and playful - a learner for life. If you are somebody who gets bothered when schools and children do not get their fair share. If you are someone who gets excited at the prospect of getting to teach and be with students, then perhaps education can be your calling. At TISS, we are trying to understand education and influence it with our teaching, research, and field projects. If you want to study here, admissions are open for three more days. https://lnkd.in/guFwvp3b #StudyEducationAtTiss [Picture clicked by Ramesh in the middle of a long brainstorming day at CETE]

Health and Social Care Teacher, T Level Lead and BTEC Lead IV at Shrewsbury Colleges Group. Alzheimer’s Ambassador, First Aid and Moving and Handling Trainer
As a T Level Health Lead I think this qualification was needed, and is a fresh update on outdated BTEC qualifications. Health students need to be able to carry out simulations and apply theory to practice, to do the job. This qualification provides that. However, the roubust assessments, volume of content and 315 hours of industry placement needs to be reviewed. The pressure this puts of students and delivery team is the reason retention and up-take is low. Having delivered BTEC for 14 years, I can hands down say a T Level learner is way more ready and competent for employment in the sector than BTEC learners. Having said that I believe students should be given choices and there is a place for A Levels, BTECs and T Levels.
⚠️ Every T Level will be reviewed as fresh figures reveal 'low' student recruitment and confirm 'worryingly low' retention on the qualifications https://lnkd.in/enEM33fJ

Biology Educator | Educational Psychologist | Bed-wetting Survivor and Counselor | Bladder/Urinary System Educator | Mental Health | Peace Advocate | Author | Public Speaker | The Prestigious Teacher
There is no height that people in other professions can reach that teachers cannot reach. Prestige is not meant for only doctors, lawyers, engineers, or news broadcaster. Prestige is also achievable for those in the teaching profession (teachers). With competence, confidence and intentionality, teachers can build reputation for themselves and increase their financial prowess. Contrary to the common narrative, the teaching profession is not marked with paltriness, poverty or lack of confidence. But you must consciously and diligently position yourself for the honor and all the pre-eminent and transcendent opportunities/rewards that you desire to have in the teaching profession. Being a teacher does not mean you should be poor, naive or inferior and deplorable in the society.

Contrary to popular belief, your experience doesn't speak for itself. Don't make the admissions committee read between the lines of your personal statement. TELL THEM you'd be an AMAZING social worker and a FANTASTIC fit for the program. OWN IT!! Back your claims up with evidence. If you don't believe you'd be an amazing asset to a graduate program and/or the field as a whole, why would an admissions committee believe it? #mswhelper #gradschool #personalstatement #socialwork #socialworkmemes #socialworkmajor #socialworkhumour #socialworklove #socialworkersbelike #socialworkstudent #socialworkerproblems #college #university #student
