Students from diverse backgrounds are unable to finish university due to unpaid work placements. To fix this, we recommend the federal parliament changes the Fair Work Act, so vocational placements must be paid. At the moment it is legal for them to be unpaid. #socialworkplacements #highereducation #unpaidworkintegratedlearning #education #nursing #teaching #socialwork #alliedhealthprofessions #AASW #studentsagainstplacementpoverty

Mountjoy have recently signed up to the Care Leaver Covenant, a national inclusion programme that supports care leavers aged 16-25, helping them to live independently after leaving care. This covenant, in addition to our signing of the Armed Forces Covenant and our Disability Confident accreditation, furthers Mountjoy’s commitment to providing equal opportunities throughout our business. The covenant focuses on providing valuable opportunities for care leavers in five key areas, including: · Independent Living · Education, Employment & Training · Safety & Security · Mental & Physical Health · Finance Organisations who have signed up to the covenant commit to providing additional support and expertise to those leaving care, outside of that statutorily provided by local authorities. This can include a variety of opportunities, such as providing access to jobs, work placements, educational programmes, mentorship, or even discounts on company products. As signatories, Mountjoy has pledged to implement the following additional support for care leavers during recruitment and within the business: · Advertisement of vacancies for Call Handlers, Labourers, and Apprenticeships on the Care Leavers website, with guaranteed interviews for applicants through this channel. · Additional support and guidance from our HR team throughout the recruitment process. This will be highlighted on our careers page, inviting care leavers to contact our HR team in confidence. · Tracking of applications from care leavers to identify if there are any obstructions preventing care leavers from applying or continuing with an application. We will adjust our recruitment process for care leavers in accordance with this. · Buddy/Mentoring Scheme for care leavers within our business, where they will be paired with a more experienced member of staff who will offer guidance. · Each care leaver within the business will be paired with one of our Mental Health First Aiders, to provide additional support if requested. Additional information regarding these offers and how to apply is available on the Care Leaver’s Covenant, accessible via the following link Care Leaver Opportunities - Care Leaver Covenant (mycovenant.org.uk). #careleavers #community #socialvalue

Today I was going through my gallery and found my NSS C-level certification. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a prominent initiative by the Indian government aimed at engaging young students in community service and nation-building activities. It plays a vital role in nurturing responsible and socially aware citizens. The "C-level" certification within NSS refers to the highest level of achievement in the scheme, which is typically granted to students who have actively participated and excelled in its various activities. Attaining the C-level certification in NSS carries significant importance on several fronts. First and foremost, it demonstrates a student's commitment to social welfare. Earning this certification requires substantial dedication, as students are expected to complete a certain number of service hours, participate in special camps, and engage in projects that benefit the community. This level of commitment showcases a sense of responsibility towards society. Furthermore, the C-level certification provides valuable experiences and skills that extend beyond the classroom. It promotes leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities, all of which are essential in personal and professional life. These skills are highly regarded by employers and educational institutions, giving certified NSS participants a competitive edge in the job market and during college admissions. The certification is also a testament to an individual's understanding of societal issues and their willingness to contribute to solutions. It serves as a testament to one's empathy, compassion, and ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Such attributes are valuable in any profession, particularly those that involve working with people and communities. To summarise, achieving the C-level certification in the National Service Scheme is not just a token of participation; it signifies a commitment to community service, nurtures important life skills and enhances one's prospects in both education and the job market. It is a testament to the positive impact an individual can make on society and serves as a source of personal and professional pride. I would like to thank Graphic Era Deemed to be University, NSS GEU, and the Government of Uttarakhand for providing me the opportunity to be part of something that adds to society. #nationalservicescheme #nss #governmentofindia #socialwork

Listening to stakeholders is just important as customers! Over the last few months Oak Housing has been working with several of our key stakeholders including those in the NHS where we provide much needed key worker accommodation primarily aimed at trusts trying to attract students from the UK and overseas to fill vacancies once they qualify. One of the biggest barriers at one trust was the affordability of a student (overseas and UK based) to pay for their accommodation on a 6-12 week placement as they also have to keep their own university accommodation. Now you would think that is an easy solution especially when a student can claim it back, now comes the challenge. They can only claim it back once they have completed the placement... madness and not affordable. So working together we are introducing a trial of a "payment deferral" scheme which after paying a small deposit, completing paper work (to demonstrate commitment to the placement offer) thus allowing payment to pay within 28 days of the placement finishing. We hope this will assist in attracting more potential students to the trust whilst maintaining our own occupancy levels during the summer months and increasing at other time. #communication #stakeholder-partnership

15,000 Fee-Free VET places from the start of 2024 for South Australians "The Fee-Free TAFE initiative has had overwhelming success in its first year exceeding the 180,000-enrolment target by almost 40,000 students, hitting nearly 215,000 enrolments." “Fee-Free TAFE and VET has been such a success that we’re committing a further $415 million to deliver an additional 300,000 places nationally beginning next year.” Noting: enrolments ≠ progression ≠ completions ≠ employment, therefore does not necessarily = program success or value for taxpayer $ or reduction of skills shortages https://lnkd.in/ghQF2vWf

Our subsidiary brand Youth Careers Scotland have started their campaign #LeaversAdvice to support young people who are transitioning from school - this can be a difficult move and so having advice and guidance to help with that change can be vital. They are looking for more entries to comment on the post below or create a post and tag the page for your chance to feature! #Education #WinterLeavers #Scotland #furthereducation #training #employment
#LeaversAdvice is our campaign to support young people who are winter leavers and transitioning from school in the next few weeks across #scotland Kicking our campaign off is Mill Magazine Having the right attitude is important as someone who is hard working, eager to learn and positive will stand out immediately from those who don't possess some of these things. Anything can be achieved with the right attitude! If you are unsure of your next steps then you need to ask for support and reach out to support resources that are there for you... By doing this, you can understand the best route for you based on your interests and ambitions along with if you have a particular career in mind. Lastly, time keeping... This is incredibly with any opportunity that you are going pursuing... A very good piece of advice is that it is better to be early than late so plan your travel in advance. Also, planning your tasks is vital - use your calendar to plan out your day and ensure you consider the importance of tasks and deadline. This is especially useful if you are going to study at College and University but also if you move to training or work. Thank you Mill Magazine for your contribution! Another brilliant regional Cornerstone Employer Group meeting with Vikki Haines, Angela Moore and Molly Whatmore from West Midlands Combined Authority plus LSIP Project Manager Raj Kaur who shared fantastic insights from research into employer perspectives on young people entering the workforce and the perceived knowledge gaps. How do we continue to join the dots between careers education and what employers really need? 🤔 Some eyeopening regional statistics about the percentage of young people classed as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). In Dudley the figure for 16 to 17 year olds is 7.4% (compared with 5.2% for England). The reasons for this are complex and varied: they may be unpaid carers, have a disability, only have qualifications below level 2 (usually GCSEs) and/or may be economically inactive. In Wolverhampton, youth claimant rates (i.e. people claiming unemployment-related benefits) are at 10.9% versus 5% for the UK for those aged 18 to 24. There is so much more that employers in the Black Country (and beyond) can do to engage with schools, colleges and academies. 89% of businesses in the West Midlands are SMEs; we all have a role to play in engaging with the next generation and ensuring they find viable and sustainable work when they leave education. The long-term benefits of this are immeasurable. I am proud of the work Higgs LLP do as a Cornerstone Employer and would like to shout out to our network of Enterprise Advisors and to every colleague who spends time sharing their knowledge with young people in the region. It is invaluable. #ThisIsHiggs #Education #Careers #Cornerstone

Parents - do you tell your kids a trade career is a real option? Based on recent survey data, lots of Australian parents agree we need more people to choose trades, but many also say parents are discouraging their kids from it. And #skilledtrades workers don’t just include the ‘tradies’ you may immediately think of working in our booming construction industry. They include lab technicians, trades #teachers, IT workers and even people in nursing. #stemcareers #skillshortage 3M National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) Read more: https://lnkd.in/gf2D-Cai
