Thanks to Matt Daly, Cheshire Home soaps, made by resident, Michael, will be purchased monthly and given out to victims of domestic violence who seek shelter at JBWS. Michael’s dedication and craftsmanship will hopefully bring a touch of comfort and hope to those in need during their healing journey. Founded in 1976, JBWS celebrates 45 years of offering hope and safety to victims of domestic violence and their families. Their mission is the prevention of domestic violence through the protection and empowerment of the victim. Cheshire Home has a similar mission – to empower our residents to reclaim their maximum level of independence. A special shout out to Matt for bringing creative ideas to life and supporting Cheshire Home residents in their soap making journey while also supporting the great work at JBWS! Thanks to Cheshire Home’s Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant, Shelby Maran, for packaging the soaps and making them look beautiful! On average, three women seek assistance from our Domestic and Family Violence services every eight hours. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women takes place tomorrow, followed by #16DaysOfActivism against Gender-Based Violence. The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW assisted more than 2,200 people through our Domestic and Family Violence services over the past year. This demand for assistance has grown considerably in recent times with the number people our services assisting since the start of COVID increasing by 42% annually. Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. We know there is a common link between domestic and family violence (DFV) and child protection. Children and adolescents who are exposed to DFV will often experience learning and behaviour difficulties, are at a higher risk of homelessness, are more likely to have poorer physical health outcomes and are likely to experience trauma (AIFS). As a peak in the child protection space, we have a responsibility to speak out against domestic violence to keep women and children in the community safe. Fams has partnered with Domestic Violence NSW to host a sector conversation on 6th December to discuss the ripple effect on families impacted by domestic and family violence. Click here to sign up - https://ow.ly/xa1250QazwK We will join many other organisations by posting educational and awareness information about DFV across the 16 days of activism. #16days16ways #16daysofactivism #safechildren #strongfamilies #supportivecommunities

When people need to escape violence, transition and second-stage housing offer short-term respite. But without long-term housing, survivors are left without options, forcing them to return to abuse. Women and people of marginalized genders commonly report bullying, harassment, discrimination, assault, and violence within shelters and other emergency housing. Make a year-end gift today, and help us advocate for long-term, safe, and secure housing for people leaving violence. https://lnkd.in/g3mE9MG4

Each May, Australia marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. The month sets out to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and coercive control, to highlight the support services available, and to communicate clearly that violence is not tolerated. Our evaluations are often at the intersection of human services policy areas. We see the impact of domestic and family violence on mental and physical health and wellbeing, housing and homelessness, and participation in education and employment. Our objective is to be candid about the impact of violence on Australians, particularly those with intersecting experiences that places them at heightened risk. We seek to involve people who can safely recount their experiences of violence and control in our evaluations, so that policy, services and supports can better align to peoples' needs.

Domestic abuse is one of the biggest reasons for referrals into services in Swindon. If you are a service provider who is working to impact the numbers of women and sometimes men who are victims of domestic abuse in Swindon, please make contact with me. We are looking to bring together as many stakeholders as possible to tackle domestic abuse in Swindon. Before we invest in further services, we have to understand what is already available to ensure we do not duplicate and waste valuable resources. We know there is a richness in the voluntary and community sector and a strategic approach across the Borough from the Swindon Safeguarding Partnership. We are now looking to ensure there is a solid offer to those at tier three, who require targeted support and those at universal level in the identification and support for domestic abuse. If you are a service provider in Swindon and we have not already connected, please drop me a line at Rogersro@swindon.gov.uk. #domesticabuseawareness #domesticabuse #SwindonCouncil #EarlyIntervention #EarlyHelp #SupportServices #WorkingTogether, #safetyfirst #ProtectOurChildren #ssp
