Contrary to pupular belief, the amount of aeration, after passing the optimal point, has an inverse relationship with the efficiency of wastewater treatment. Increasing dissolved oxygen in a wastewater treatment process is not a logical solution to treat that wastewater. Do not be fooled by advertising companies! Increasing the amount of dissolved oxygen in wastewater treatment causes a phenomenon called sludge cottoniness, which results in the escape of sludge in the clarifier along with clean effluent. It is interesting to know that this activated sludge is completely alive but escapes. This means that everything you have done has been in vain!
