Here's my final project for Film Editing Pro's "The Art of Trailer Editing" (https://lnkd.in/eTcexRcB) online course. I found the lessons on organization, workflow, visual and sound design techniques incredibly helpful. They provide really detailed breakdowns of various creative elements utilized in drama vs comedy vs horror trailers, and give insight into getting started and how to whittle down which moments you decide to show and what you decide to hide from your audience. The technical sections on cheating dialogue and cobbling lines was such a small tidbit, but a really mind-blowing tool that can be used in any form of editing. It packs information into easily digestible videos and provides an amazing set of assets with which to practice cutting your first spec trailer. Well-worth the price IMO. What can you get done in 2 days with Virtual Production? 6 commercial spots in wildly different locations is the answer. We recently had Scott Rice in the studio to shoot some spots for America First Credit Union. We went from exterior camping shots, to with a tow truck, to interior living rooms, to interior bedroom, to driving a dune buggy, to interior basement all in 2 days with plenty of time for Scott to get the performances out of his actors. This is a great case study on how Virtual Production should be used. Have you seen the new Top Gear presenters? Neither have I. But here's a photo of some of our team giving Top Gear vibes on our latest location recce. Location recces are SO BLOODY IMPORTANT. One of the things you can never have enough of on location is...SPACE. Once you start to bring in all the camera gear, production equipment, crew & actors, a seemingly big space can start to feel pretty small. Now...it's not that easy to truly see how much space there is on location from looking at photos. This is why investing the time in doing proper recces is so key! The Knowlton team also take a camera with them to do a pre-visualisation of some scenes to ensure they look the nuts! This also allows them to plan how the cast and crew will fit into the space and prevent potential issues. My go-to lighting style is Definitely Rembrandt simply because of the look it gives. I usually won't let it be as dramatic as it is in the video, and toss some fill light on the opposite cheek. If I ever do split lighting, I use a very large dome to achieve a much softer light. The smaller your dome, the more dramatic your shadows will be. I'll probably use Paramount lighting the least for my projects. Sometimes I'll use it when filming in a narrower room! Which lighting style is your go to?
