Owner and Founder of Round Table Advocacy - A professional Special Education Advocate with over a decade of experience
With school now in full swing, I am getting calls from parents who have submitted a formal request to have their child evaluated for special education eligibility. Often, the question is "Why haven't I heard back?". There is a specific, 90-day, time limit that the school/district is given to respond to you and to complete the evaluation of your child. Make sure you make your request in writing, and that you ask the school/district to confirm their receipt of your request, again, in writing. Keep a record of this, and follow up with the school/district to understand progress. Let them know that you understand your rights and that they have 90 days to respond to you and evaluate your child. Watch this video for details, and more information on your rights in this process. If you are concerned about the reaction time of your child's school to your request, please give me a call so we can discuss your rights and how you may respond to any delay. It’s your humanity that makes relationships work…and it’s ALL about relationships. We at SEND work with schools across the UK and globally to provide a range of training and interventions to support our teaching colleagues as they navigate the the best route to help their learners. As an educator you can have all the knowledge in the world… but if you lack humanity, lack the ability to reflect and see past the ‘behaviour’ and do not understand it is ALL about relationships, then you will be of no help to the children that need your humanity the most. You should also question your career choices. As a school leader the question to some needs to be; ‘why do you work with children, when you clearly do not like children?’ #SEND #Behaviour IS #Communication #Relationships #Advocacy #Humanity

Public school teacher/instructional specialist and substitute who is currently subbing as well as training and supporting substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.
We have over SEVENTY substitute educators registered for our Southwest Washington SubCommunity event next week in Vancouver, Washington! Last month, when we gathered in Vancouver with subs, we discussed how to connect quickly with students. Guest educators don’t have a lot of time, but we know how critical it is to connect before we correct - especially given that most subs have no relationship with students. I plan to bring up the power of proximity as my favorite substitute “behavior tool.” It really is my most effective strategy. Tell all of the educator friends you have about our FREE SubCommunity gatherings! #SubCommunities #subshortage #conklineducationalperspectives #substituteteachers #substituteteaching #substituteteacher #subshortage #substituteteachersofinstagram #pnwsubstituteteachers #teachersfollowteachers #principalsofinstagram #principalsofinstagram

I firmly believe that developing strong partnerships with families and the community is essential for effectively advocating for the diverse needs of the children and families we serve, respectful communication and collaboration with parents/guardians allow us to deeply, understand each child's unique background, culture, strengths, and needs.
