World Television Day 2023 is a global observance that celebrates the impact and importance of television as a medium for communication, information, and entertainment. It acknowledges the role television plays in shaping public opinion, promoting cultural diversity, and fostering dialogue among nations. #UWITV

Recently, I stumbled upon a published article about someone whom I unabashedly admire for her process and methods of uplifting and acknowledging the contributions of those who work behind the scenes with her. Less than 12 hours later, I felt compelled to share my thoughts on the significance of striking a balance between passion and maintaining a professional digital presence as a creative, whether you belong to the above-the-line or below-the-line crew. Often, these hardworking individuals may not receive the best financial compensation or rewards for their invaluable contributions to creating blockbuster movies or remarkable TV shows. Instead, the limelight tends to be dominated by onscreen or on-air superstars and celebrities. However, I believe that the next significant opportunity for professional growth lies in two possible options: Professional Recommendations: A glowing referral from a boss or colleague in the industry. An Exceptionally Curated Professional Showreel: A showcase of your best work that demonstrates your skills and talents. Between the two, the power of a professional referral is truly remarkable. It can come from a boss or colleague, falling into two categories: those who make the referrals overtly public and obvious, and those who operate silently behind the scenes. Whichever type of boss or colleague you encounter in your career, it's essential to appreciate the process and the impact it can have on your growth. Having the opportunity to be mentioned and credited by someone I address fondly as "#MyableDirector Busola Komolafe evokes a unique and exciting feeling, humbling me in the process. While Loyalty and honesty are non-negotiable qualities if you aspire to thrive and advance in the creative industry.

Diverse and working-class film-making talent faces barriers in the UK due to the cancellation of initiatives and development projects, MPs were told. The lack of accessible routes into the industry has made it increasingly exclusive to the wealthiest. Programs like Channel 4’s Random Acts and BFI’s First Light, which once supported new talent, are no longer available, hindering grassroots development. The industry now relies on independent trusts and wealth for funding, exacerbating the class divide, with 60% of arts workers from middle-class backgrounds, compared to 42% of the wider workforce.
