Over the last 7 years we’ve built Theolytics from concept to clinic. Thank you Hays and George Costard for inviting me to share some of those experiences last week on such a lively, relevant Biotech Executive Event panel! One key reflection - as long as we remain a minority in leadership roles, women championing other women in biotech can only go so far, so fast. It takes conscious effort from all of us to ‘level-up’. That’s: 💪 courageous founders starting-up 💸 active investment choices ♀ Boards hiring and supporting female leadership 🔍 search firms going the extra mile to find and promote diverse talent 🚸 partners stepping up to share responsibilities at home, and ⏩ radical change in company and government policies driving flexible work arrangements and access to childcare. Kudos to my fellow panelists Robin Wright FCA CSOP, Rafiq Hasan and Matthew S. Jones for sharing some of the tangible ways that they’ve promoted and championed female leaders as we work towards a more equitable biotech ecosystem. #Biotech #leadership #equity

Companies with diverse boards have better outcomes and are more productive when women are involved, said Christiana Bardon, co-managing partner at investment firm MPM BioImpact. Gender-balanced boards are “almost 20% more likely to have enhanced business outcomes,” per a report from the United Nations’ International Labour Organization. Putting more women in leadership roles at VCs would likely equate to more women getting board seats and more women on startup executive teams, investors said. Series 2X — the name is a play on investing lingo like “Series A” and two X chromosomes — is interested in teaming up with other groups like the Biotech Sisterhood, which is a group of female CEOs in life sciences. #impactinvesting #dei #diversity #biot h ttps://https://lnkd.in/em7-iqsm

It's not a new topic, but an important one to keep front and center. Female-founded biotechs received less than $6B out the nearly $30B biopharma VCs distributed last year - with wide ranging ramifications for the health and wellness of half of the global population. And it all starts with who holds the checkbook. More women VCs --> more funding to women led companies + more women on boards + more women on executive teams. We were privileged to have Gargi Maheshwari and Sanchayita Ghose, two senior leaders from Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), sharing their insights as esteemed panelists, alongside our inspirational leader, Sridevi Khambhampaty. The session was moderated by Swetha Sampathgiri from BMS, adding further depth to this insightful discussion. Their stories were both inspiring and motivating, emphasizing the importance of women's contributions in STEM fields. On Day 3 of the 2024 Women of Color in Pharma (WOCIP) Cluster Meetings, discussions were centered around Employee Resource Group (ERG) leaders. Read a key takeaways below from our #experts in attendance this week --LaToya Lee Jones, Erica Parks Murray, and Brandon Miller. #ERG’s can influence the most #change within organizations by aligning goals with senior leaders’, sharing desired outcomes with key decision-makers, and embedding objectives related to #diversity and #inclusion into organizational goals. Focus on: 1) Connecting with everyone in the community that wants to be engaged 2) Bringing the Inside Out, meaning leverage your ERGs initiatives to engage with the community and build partnerships/trust to strengthen the value and perception of your organization. 3) Bringing the Outside In, meaning leverage the data, lessons, and perspectives of your community to drive change and prioritize focus for your ERG & organization. Demonstrating the #impact of an ERG goes beyond listing activities. A data-driven approach elevates the conversation to a more strategic level, highlighting the societal impact of the ERG and its alignment with the company's mission. By #quantifying the impact of ERG initiatives, such as increased patient diversity in clinical trials or improved access to healthcare in underserved communities, companies can move beyond the "functional" level of value perception.

🚺 International Women's Day- Why highlight women in R&D? Because their brilliance fuels innovation. It’s not just about gender; it’s about unlocking potential. When we spotlight their achievements, we amplify progress, foster inclusion, and ignite curiosity. A woman that comes to mind for me is Dr. Aviv Regev: Since joining Genentech in 2020, Dr. Patel has been on the forefront of scientific excellence. As Head and Executive Vice President of Genentech Research and Early Development, she works on drug discovery and development. --------But that’s not all. ---------- She’s a luminary on multiple stages: 1) Genentech Executive Committee: Her seat at this table shapes strategy, innovation, and impact. 2) Board of Directors: Her voice resonates in pivotal decisions. 3) Roche’s Corporate Executive Committee: She bridges boundaries, amplifying collaboration. Before Genentech, she graced MIT and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. A founding co-chair of the Human Cell Atlas, she’s a beacon for aspiring scientists. But her legacy transcends titles. Mentorship courses through her veins. She doesn’t just teach; she ignites curiosity, fuels dreams, and guides the next generation. #WomenInScience #RnDExcellence #InnovationMatters
