To analyze performance, you need the right context or in this case, benchmark.   As noted by Lydia Tomkiw for Pensions & Investments, AQR’s Style Premia strategy had several down years between 2018 and 2020 before a turnaround where they have soared back ever since. In comparison, the PivotalPath Global Macro: Risk Premia Index was also in negative territory from January 2018 through December 2020, though annualizing only a loss of 4.4%.
