'Leading U.S. technology companies reportedly have increased security screening of employees and job applicants, which experts say is necessary to counter the cyber espionage threat from China. While the enhanced screening is being applied to employees and applicants of all races, those with family or other ties to China are thought to be particularly vulnerable to pressure from the Beijing government.' https://lnkd.in/gynYE7tw
Screening against nationality doesn’t do much for you. You need a systematic screening program against robust risk criteria, on a recurring basis over time. Screening “Chinese employees” because they are Chinese is unethical, and actually illegal in some countries.
One would not come to the conclusion that ship has already sailed? Myself I'm postponing learning my next world language until the outcome is more clear. Will it be Hindi or Mandarin is what I'm asking myself. I'm suspecting it may become English and Hindi and Mandarin to stay relevant the next 50 years or so. Longer ago than one might think sensible the West has entered a power play it may've never had to play before and it misses the relevance of the very foundations of it's knowing and insight built on and integrated with the competition's ancient legacy of knowledge and wisdom. At worst, we're about to be beaten at almost any level in almost any domain for few or more decades to come and become entirely irrelevant. A cherished memory leaving nostalgic traces.
FYI, here are some examples of the Google’s covert influencing operations in social media, which were developed and championed by the Chinese expats based in the Google APAC offices in Hong Kong SAR and Singapore: https://bit.ly/4alXXPf https://bit.ly/3TmdcSd https://bit.ly/48hsb3Z https://bit.ly/47PTXE1 https://bit.ly/42IDel3 https://bit.ly/3I10qBw https://bit.ly/4bw0XZM https://bit.ly/3utAVpv https://bit.ly/3wjJLGJ https://bit.ly/4bDvW6e https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jongchoi_smarp-snapshot-210-googles-social-media-activity-7193089080920870912-SqeC
Charles Great article thanks for posting. Glad to see big tech realizing just how much “walks” out the door to competitors. It will continue to be a chess game as applicants learn the background screening methods and can out maneuver them. https://www.clearspeed.com #innovation #humanresources #technology #future #futurism #bankingindustry #artificialintelligence #maritime #security #intelligence #AI #supplychain #banking #nationalsecurity #lawenforcement #fraud #insurancefraud #investmentbanking #Capitalmarkets #CustomerExperience #MaritimeIndustry #clearspeed #insurance #riskmanagement #Creativity

3wFrom a vantage point relatively close to PRC (South Korea), the issue of China’s harmful infiltration to global tech companies seems much more serious. For instance, Big Tech companies like Google has been hiring and maintaining unreasonably large teams in mainland China as well as many Chinese expats in the neighboring countries, and have them perform tasks that are critical to the security of the US and its ally nations, such as exporting the highly controlled AI chips in the form of cloud services, exfiltrating the trade secrets of Google and its client companies, spreading disinformation in social media, and even carrying out the anti-union strategies against the American workers. I suspect that the Big Tech’s HR and other practices relating to PRC should deserve far deeper scrutiny.
