In fiscal year 2023, approximately 10% of the Philippine's Gross Domestic Product came from remittances. "The UN states that at least one in nine people globally are supported by funds received from abroad, and half of the amount ends up in rural areas, where some of the world’s poorest people live. This also makes remittances three times more important than international aid. On a global scale, personal inbound remittances have risen seven times between 2000 and 2023." — https://lnkd.in/egAqdQw2 #Remittance #boosting #economy #Philippines #OFW #overseas #knowledgeandpatience #elmads

"In the current context of the widening gap between the development funding mobilized and the urgent requests to spend the money on development objectives, we need to optimize all sources of development finance." "Domestic resource mobilization is a crucial part of this puzzle. Bilateral aid flows pale in comparison when it comes to countries' own ability to mobilize resources and their importance for countries to take ownership of their own development and providing for their citizens." "The [Global Public Finance Partnership, or GPFP] that sets the focus on low-income countries and fragile contexts comes well placed to mobilize the IMF abilities and bring them to bear where they are most needed", says Elina Scheja, Chief Economist at the Swedish International Development Agency Sida https://lnkd.in/eMXd9FgQ Sweden's Sida is one of the initial 9 donor partners of the GPFP. #IMFPartners #IMFCapDev #GPFP Jakob Granit Marie Ottosson Tommy Strömberg Torbjorn Pettersson Franck Bousquet Peter Kunzel Marion Muscat Vitaliy Dubil

Pegasys is proud to announce that, as part of a consortium led by Agulhas Applied Knowledge, we will support the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) with its programme of reviews from 2024-2028! Established in May 2011, ICAI is an independent commission dedicated to evaluating the impact and value for money of all UK government Official Development Assistance (ODA). Their crucial work ensures that UK aid is spent effectively, benefiting those who need it most and delivering value for UK taxpayers. Pegasys will be a part of the consortium, which will support ICAI to conduct well-prioritised, well-evidenced, and credible thematic reviews on strategic issues related to the UK government's aid spending. These reviews will inform and support Parliament through the House of Commons International Development Committee (IDC) in its role of scrutinising the impact and value for money of UK government ODA. We are thrilled to contribute to this vital mission and look forward to working closely with Agulhas Applied Knowledge and other partners in the consortium. #UKAid #DevelopmentAssistance #InternationalDevelopment #Sustainability #Partnerships

The new OECD rules on reporting private sector aid reflect efforts driven largely by finance ministries in donor countries to score ODA without budgetary outlays. Stephen Cutts warns this will trigger a gradual shift away from grants. I see no reason to believe that these new rules will incentivise private sector involvement in development, especially in the poorest countries. On the contrary, the new rules actually undermine the integrity and robustness of ODA statistics, he writes. We've studied successful country recovery cases (recently) and Croatia after the 1991-1995 war was among them. The total damage amounted to $68 billion, but the financial aid from donors was relatively modest, around $2 billion. What did drive their success? ◾️ The country decided to stop subsidizing industries that were already on the verge of bankruptcy, such as shipbuilding and others. Instead, they prioritized the #reconstruction of their road infrastructure, which facilitated the growth of tourism. ◾️ Integration into the #EU contributed to economic #growth and the fight against corruption. ◾️ The collaboration between the government and businesses, with a focus on developing the small and medium-sized segments, formed the foundation of their recovery policy. ◾️ As a result, they managed to restore their GDP to pre-war levels in just 5 years. #war #recovery #research
