After 5+ years, I’m sharing that my journey at Square has ended. It was an honor to be part of Square to build products for economic empowerment. I loved to see how Square sellers rose to the challenge through boom and bust cycles. My favorite thing to do was to speak to Square sellers, because I’m never surprised by their ability to adapt through even the most difficult moments or hack a solution (actually this caused a lot of headaches for me but I loved the hustle!). I’m proud of what I built at Square. It wasn’t always the product that gets a press release, but my products will last for years as Square continues to grow and expand. Last of all, the people at Square really helped me to up level my product craft through the years. I’ve learned the importance not just articulating the “why,” but repeating that “why” throughout the lifecycle to empower and invigorate a team. Also must say: I have a lot of fond memories of hanging out with what I’m sure will be lifelong friends.
Speaking of lifelong friends… What am I doing next? I’m joining Bhaskar M. at Michaels Stores where I’ll build and expand MakerPlace by Michaels, a platform to buy and sell handmade crafts. As consumer behavior trends evolve, there’s always a countermovement. Today, we see the rise of Temu and fast, direct-to-consumer mass goods from those large containerships. MakerPlace will be the countermovement against mass market products. Our focus is rather well-crafted, handmade products. I'm excited to part of this movement and I'm driven by the crafty mission (see what I did there?). And I’m so excited to work with Bhaskar. We started our careers together at Sears when we didn’t know what we were doing, but we figured it out together. And I think we’ll figure this out together as well! Please check out MarkerPlace and DM any constructive feedback :-)
